Question 1....
For those that use Canon systems, what's your secret for using a single speedlite either on-camera or on-a-bracket-on-the-camera, in a dark venue?  Evaluative or Average?  FEL or no FEL?  I try to consistently do the same thing with each shot, dragging the shutter as much as is reasonable and using FEL, but about 1/3 of my shots are either about 2 stops over or 4 stops over.  I'd like to acheive better consistency.

Question 2....
Is anyone able to get consistent results from the Canon Wireless Flash system?  If so, are there any special techniques that you've found to be especially helpful?

What is the relevance of dpi/ppi to images destined for display on monitors and not printed? There's a lot of talk about 72 dpi/ppi optimized web images. Does it have any effect on image quality or file sizes?

I've been involved in photography for over 25 years.  Just got my first digital camera.  What is the advantage to using a micro drive card vs a cf card?  If the cf card is a 2G card and the the micro drive is a 2G card, what is the difference?

RingFlashes  In your opinion as a photographer, What are they good for?  Why do I get red eye and how do I get rid of it when using a ringflash?  What is the best ringflash? What ringflash do you prefer?  What are some of the others available?  I hear they are great for beauty, is that true and do you use them for that often?  What about the battery powered ones?

OK question:

what makes your pictures different from anyone else?
what makes up more of your magic the camera or retouching/post production?
& how do you take a glamour shot?

why is it that the same subject taken with the same cameras at the same point but different photographers at the same time always look different. is it the setting on the cameras? the lighting. what is it?

ok question:

I've read in a lot of your other threads that you use a beauty dish quite often but usually it is a gridded beauty dish.  Is this a specialized beauty dish that accepts a grid or do all beauty dishes accept a grid ( looking through B&H the only gridded dish I saw was a Hensel).  For example I just got a Alien bee beauty dish, can a grid be used with this and how.

I have heard that there is a focus distance to a beauty dish that is ideal is that true?

OK question:

Ok I have one smile Most of the work done in my studio is art nude or headshots, but my issue sometimes is lighting a white or other color seamless paper background evenly, for 3/4 or full body shots. My studio is 18'x24' which gets the job done, but for this task, I find it much easier in a larger space to create more distance and use flags to avoid spilling on the subject. What techniques and modifiers do you suggest to accomplish this in the space I have? Thank you for a great and helpful thread!

Question:
What is the difference in lighting between a softbox and an umbrella, given the same color, relative size and light source? Or is there a difference?

OK question:
What is the best equipment and technique to light the eyes so that the iris is large enough to show off the eye color on 3/4 and full body shots? I've seen images like this shot for magazines that are sized down to 5.5" x 7.5" for the web, and the eye color is still visible and gorgeous!

Question:

Gels and filters.   I spend a lot of time trying to get the colors I want, haven't found any great advice yet.   One effect I like is the vibrant, saturated, technicolor look.    I've had trouble doing this in digital without the aid of photoshop, as it is easy to blow out color channels. (have had better success with slide film, where colors blow out a bit more gracefully).  What am I missing?

I also end up wanting to change the color temperature on certain areas of a subject (warmer light on the face, cooler light elsewhere, etc).  My results have been poor to date....  What gels do you find most useful, and used how?

Question:

Another thank you for starting this thread.  This is an exposure and processing question.

Your photographs (and a very few others) are remarkably sharp, and show a depth of color that I have been unable to attain.  Would you please share how you expose your images, and perhaps just a bit of your post processing?

This is not a question but rather an older post that all should read through at least once, preferably before starting photography as a career, and when starting it as one, and in the middle of it and toward the end, and maybe after they retire

ok question:
you rather have a shot be:

1. Underexposed
2. Noisy
3. Blurry
4. Out of focus

What do you find is the lesser of the evils, when you're put in a situation where you need a little bit more light, but you don't want to open the aperture any wider, you don't want to bump up the iso, and you don't want to leave the shutter open any longer?
