It's interesting to note that none of the photographers I've worked with ever complained when I told them (while going off to a remote location to shoot),

I still think it would make a fun image to shoot a studio setting with a face off with sundry thug/law enforcement/jealous boyfriends/Hells Angels/WWF escort types.

Well that's your own fault for letting the models have escorts, clearly the MUA needed one to protect her from them

No, seriously, the MUAs want escorts now TOO?

Well it totally depends.

Personally for me, there is generally a waiting area where people can wait, should someone come along.

Most escorts from what I hear from others are generaly not an issue, but when they are - they are a big issue.

However, one needs to ask the other question.  If you were being shot for say "Elle" magazine, would you even worry about being alone, as there are plenty of others on the sets, hair, makeup, assistants, etc.

In smaller productions, where it is just the model and photographer, you need to feel comfortable.  If you do not - you should not be there, escort or not.  Why would you want to put yourself at risk.

In the end you are a professional, and need to conduct yourself as one, just as the photographer needs to.  If either feel the situation is not to thier liking, move on to another project.

On professional sets, only the people involved in the shot are on the set itself.  However, that does not mean that there are not others nearby.

Keep yourself safe and professional at all times, and the shoots always will work out.

Sure, my escort will take yours out for a few beers at the local pub and watch the baseball game....so where does that leave you?

Really if you don't feel confident enough, do you meet up with the photographers first? do you talk with them?  Do you do a shoot in a public place or mandate a public area as a first shoot and not a remote location?  Do you not tell anyone that you are shooting with so and so at this address for this period of time?

There's lots that both can do to insure each person's safety.  Having someone there doesn't necessarily make you safe.

In a semi-related note:
Just what is the point of all the photographer/managers on OMP? I don't get it. "This model is being managed by such and such Sony 828-owning guy who lives in distant suburbia." Is this supposed to help people get jobs? Is it just notches in the bedpost of the aspiring GWC?

The only "managed" model I booked canceled twice.

Serves you right for using an MUA for anything.  Nothing I've seen or heard during my time on this site has changed my opinion that MUAs are a bunch of uptight, self-important, needy psychos.  In my dictionary, MUA is an acronym for Much Undeeded Angst...

...And I have yet to meet a decent model who can't do their own makeup.

Probably because they recognize how prudent it is not to invoke the ire of one who'd make such statements.

I may need to borrow that chipper. I'm going to Chicago at the end of the month and parking's a real bear in the windy city. It's a lot smaller than the one I own, but I'm only casting small models.

Just read LarryB's profile and LOL@

Escorts: I don't care if you bring a personal assistant to help you. Bringing along somebody to assist can be very helpful. If you plan to bring an "escort" you must give me reasonable assurance your boyfriend/husband can behave himself. I have no interest in being Gina Lee'd!

An old and very lively topic again.  Just my two bits with what has already been said.  I don't prohibit escorts on the first shoot but more often than not, "he will sit in the corner and be good" turns into a royal pain in the butt.  Especially when it is the jealous fiance, boyfriend, or hubby, not to mention the Dad who thinks his daughter shouldn't be modeling in the first place!!!

I suggest models check out the photographer first.  Ask other models what they are like.  It isn't that hard to get a feel for if the photographer is great to work with or if he is a creep.  If you aren't comfortable shooting with a photographer alone, you probably shouldn't be shooting with them at all.

If you MUST shoot with an escort, NEVER just show up with them!!!  "Oh by the way, this is my possessive fiance, I hope you don't mind him pacing back and forth over there looking like a mass murderer while you work."  As a minimal professional courtesy, discuss the escort with the photographer in advance and if it is a deal breaker, pass up the work.  If you are scheduled with a photographer who doesn't work with a babysitter and you surprise him with yours, you won't be shooting anyway.

Oh... for what it is worth, the only thing worse than showing up with an unannounced escort is to NOT SHOW UP AT ALL.  then again, maybe not.

How do you not understand that being alone in a room with a strange man could be scary for a woman? Jiffy Lube is a public place. A photographer can choose any number of secluded/private places to take a model to be alone, away from all those "distractions"

I'm pretty sure that there have been plenty of serial killers/rapists that have figured out that the photographer role was perfect to get girls alone. Or even the mild perverts.

If you are getting models from agencies that don't bring escorts, you may have references with them, or they are an agency that cares less about their models that they do about their money.

As a photrapher and a model, I think that an escort is essential to the photographer/model relationship. If you are worried about an escort stealing or being distracting, bring an escort of your own to keep an eye on them.

then you are welcome to indulge your uninformed ass and entertain all the escorts you please. just don't suggest i'm the problem for not agreeing with your assessment or its the chipper for you!

Hah! I shot alone with oldguysrule and James Graham, and the only escort I brought along was theda, and wouldn't you know, she was the one who kept trying to molest me. The guys were too busy dinking with their gadgets. They barely looked at us except to make clicking noises or to adjust the lighting. Theda, on the other hand, she was EVIL.

I say we have one large photoshoot.  Pick a central location.  Get all the models with escorts together.  We all pitch in together and get this baby...
