Craig Seay has twisted my arm and persuaded me to take over the reins of the 3rd LIST (as well as the 2nd LIST!), which of course I am happy to do.
I must start by thanking Craig for all the hard work that he has put into creating this excellent resource, and I only hope that I can continue where he left off.
The 3rd LIST provides aspiring MM models with two important resources.
Firstly, a list of skilled models who are willing to mentor, instruct, or advise other models who are wanting such help.
And secondly, by viewing the portfolios of the Mentors, newbies can learn a great deal about what makes a top model.
To find a Mentor
1. Check the below list to see if there is a Mentor in your area
2. If there is, send a message to the Mentor telling them what help you are after. The Mentor will get back to you, telling you if they are able to help, and if so, how to proceed.
3. If there is not a Mentor local to you, put a request on this thread, and check back regularly as the Mentors list is regularly updated.
Portfolio Assessment
If you would like you portfolio assessed by a Mentors please add your request to this thread. The assessment will be in two parts:
Part 1 will be an overview of your portfolio as it currently stands, and
Part 2 will be advice on ways to improve.
The assessment will be sent to you via personal message.
If you get an assessment and find it useful, please add a comment on this thread, in appreciation of the help given.
Any members willing to offer their assistance would be most welcome. Please note that the panel will carry out the simple vetting procedure of inspecting the volunteer’s portfolio and profile to ensure that their work is of a 'standard'. The volunteer will then be informed that they have been accepted, and then their details will be added to the appropriate part of the list as soon as practicable.
[b]What does it take to be a Mentor?
It takes someone with….
1. …..an in depth knowledge of their industry
2. …..the willingness to share their knowledge with others
3. …..patience, and an understanding of what it is like to be a newbie
If you are assisted by a Mentor, it would be good to show your appreciation by adding a message to this thread. This will also encourage others needing help to seek out a Mentor.
WHEN POSTING A REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE, OR AN OFFER TO BE A MENTOR, PLEASE STATE YOUR INTENTIONS CLEARLY! _____________________________________
*These lists are updated as frequently as possible, but usually not immediately.
Constructive suggestions are helpful and appreciated.
THANKS!
I would very much appreciate if you would also support our sister lists (click on the emblems below to visit the threads):

A good question.
I describe a Mentor as someone with:
1. An in depth knowledge of their industry
2. The willingness to share their knowledge with others
3. Patience, and an understanding of what it is like to be a newbie.
I am very proud to have been added to the Model Mentors here on Model Mayhem.
This is an open invitation to any model… if you feel that I may be able to assist you as a Mentor in your modeling or your career development please do not hesitate to write. I will be more than happy to assist however possible.

Last modeling job I did was over 20 years ago, so I'm not sure if I qualify. And I'm not exactly a newbie, although I work with them all the time. However, other than not being a model myself these days, I do feel as though I have something to offer as a mentor. Let me know . . . .
TXPhotog would be a great asset to the Mentor program. There’s nothing like getting sound logical advice from the other side of the camera… not to mention the sound legal knowledge that TX possesses specifically in the Copyright end of things

Hi JoJo
I totally agree with your comments, but I am concerned that the Model Mentors may be pushed aside if we add photographers to the Model Mentor page. There is already a sort of 'Photographers mentoring Models' attitude on the original 'LIST'.
If anyone has any opinions on this, please do message me, so that a consensus decison can be made.

Well, considering we already have Phillipe on the list, I don't see the harm in adding Roger. He knows his stuff and would make an excellent addition to the list.

What does "pushed aside" mean? Really, I don't understand that comment. Is there some sort of concern that in the marketplace of (free) mentoring, photographers might get some of the attention that models would otherwise get?
Is it that models seeking mentoring might decide, if it is available to them, to seek the knowledge of photographers instead of, or in addition to, knowledge from models?
And that is bad why?

No, there isn't.
What the original LIST says it's for, and I take it at its word, is
I am posting here a weekly updated list of "Top Drawer" approved pro-semi pro photographers who have agreed to dedicate at least one day each month to indiscriminately help newbie models in their regions develop their portfolios.
As I mentioned in PM to you, I am NOT offering to do that. Mentor, yes. Develop portfolios, no. My profile says I don't do that, and I mean it.
The two lists are (as stated) for distinctively different purposes.
Also, my offer stems not from my role as "photographer", but from my role as "model agent". After years of running a model agency in NYC, and writing a book about modeling, it might just be that I have something to offer as a "mentor", even though I am not a model.
I would like to sincerely thank TXPhotog, JoJo Suicide & Miss FiFi-Alexis for their input.
Firstly I would like to state that, on taking over this thread, there were a good number of Mentors already on the list, prior to my involvement, and I did not realise that we already had a photographer (Philipe) on the list. As such, there is obviously now no reason to consider this matter, as it already has been decided.
We will add ANYONE to the list who is willing to mentor, and fulfils the criteria.
The only change that we are going to make that may be beneficial, is to denote the status of the Mentor (e.g. Model, Photographer, etc). This will be done over the next few days.
So finally, welcome TXPhotog to the list. I will add you details shortly.
I'm game, but lots o luck finding somebody I've worked with. I've posted about the no show problem more than once. A reference? I can only think of one, if he remembers me after all these years.
i would like to help.. ive always loved helping newbies... but i live so far right now, but can i be on the list, still? (im from cali) i can help online... only few MM members from the philippines
As I often work with Newbie models and find that I mentor them anyway, I would be happy to offer my help. At this point I feel I have more to offer Models than I do young photographers. I have just moved to the northwest. I am living in Vancouver BC, but will be working also in Seattle, Portland and California, when possible.
I am available to help new models break into modeling and critique their portfolios through this program.
As many of you know, I am extremely active with this site. I'm well connected with many of Model Mayhem's top photographers (in part through the site's Picture of the Day and Picture of the Day - Original Edition competitions, which I host) and work with many new models.
Simply let me know what I can do to help.
Take care,
T. R. Willmitch
