This is more about me recently working with photographers who know how to work a women with curves...and then working with some who dont know what the hell they are doing and getting upset at images that are not worthwhile...

I seriously am not dissing you in any way Cris, but do the photographers you work with have to give you a lot of direction in posing?  That may be the problem.  I don't know, and I'm certainly not saying you can't work your ish. . .but the photographer IMO is capturing you, the lighting and all.  If you can't pose effectively, he may very well not know how to manipulate the lens to capture what you aren't posing.  I don't know.  I certainly have not had the experiences you've gone through.  I'm just asking if knowing how to effectively pose for a particular style of photography I don't think falls in the hands of the photographer totally.  I think that the model needs to bring her A game as well and pose accordingly.  That's what I struggle with: knowing how to pose to accentuate my shape instead of amplify it.

That photographeer was directing my pose..and everytime I suggested a pose to open up my shape and give it a different outlook...he told me he didnt want my hips to wide and he wanted to make them seem smaller and my shape to seem smaller...which is making my shape look false to the world...which ic something I wasnt going for

Jayne, there's a way to fix that.

I would suggest you find a photog that's used to working with new models, because we know how to get the right poses out of you as opposed to just clicking away and hoping we catch a winner (which is a problem with photogs with digital cams, not all, but enough do that). Photographers that started off doing film are good at giving direction because each shot costs money, and we don't like to waste money.

Hey lady a bit more for this comment..come on yo make me feel bad because I'm thin. The funny thing is that growing up I was teased for being skinny by the black people and I'm sure you were praised for being thick...so now I have come somewhere that praises me for getting thinner. It's all about the where and what for...just because us "skinny black models" catch slack here doesn't mean that we haven't been teased and out of the crowd before..you should know this that in a caucasion market the skinny women are preferred be it white or black. There are plenty of places that love you and your body type..you just have to find them...i went on an all fatty food reverse diet while i was in high school just to get bigger thighs and butt and breasts and then got on birth control and achieved the breasts and butt factors but now here i am trying to go back to the way I was before I wanted to get bigger. I guess what I'm trying to say is that soemtimes you'll be accepted and sometimes you won't it just depends on the time period and place. Wherever you end up it should be a place tht accepts who you are because it's always going to be some way that you and your body aren't good enough but another where it's the best. luv ya!!

Screw you, pay me! lol

Film & developing costs money
Make up costs money
Electricity costs money
My time and expertise costs money

Now, what warrants me working for free, exactly? This isn't the first church of BCI... Oh wait, church costs money too, that's why they pass around the plate 3, 4 times. lol  but anyway, I didn't tell her to PAY a photog to do it, I said FIND one. Plenty of people out there shoot for free "just because."

Me, i'm very selective about who I cover shooting costs with. It's an earned credit, as it should be.

Did you actually read what the guy wrote?

It's easy to pop off shots with a digital camera in the hope of getting one good one every now and again.  But if you're used to working with film you tend to pay more attention to what's going on in the shot, knowing that every frame that isn't any good is a waste of money.  This means that you have to develop a good working relationship with a model if you're going to turn out good pics.

But you're the one that said you couldn't do nudes because of your shape.

Figure/art nude modeling is the most egalitarian form of modeling. There are nheight or weight restirctions. There are no sample garments to fill out.  It's all about celebrating the beauty of the human form. Compare me to Lapis to Shyly to Model Sarah to Kat Love to Iona Lynn... all very different types and all successful figure models.

well obviously BCI is making requirements to nude modeling now....and I did contact a photographer that is extremely good and an exception to me to try and experiement with artistic nude...But WHAT ..BCI sais I dont fit those requirements to even be NAKED :?

You clearly have body issues. I'm sorry you can't appreciate yourself, but that is your issue, not us "slimmies." And not BCI, who never said or intimated in anyway what he thinks you're good for.

By the way, I can't physically change my shape either without implants.  We're all constrained by the same basic physiology.

Not I dont have body issues....slimmies are the ones getting eveything on tv and in the industry...hardly any one my sized getting noticed

Yup, she's exceptional for the market she's in and what she did with ole dude from England, that's why he chose her and I would choose her too.

Do you know who this is?

https://img4.modelmayhem.com/060412/11/443d2d599c85c.jpg

That's Tiara of http://www.tiaraxclusive.com all 5'10 165 pounds of her in a very nice fashionable shot. Makes her living off of booty shots, but has the versatility to do other things.

Now you asked me a question about you and only read half my answer and ran with it because unlike "some" people on here i'm not drooling over your first pic or trying to coddle you. Tough, that's the business. Once you step into the arena, be ready to fight because you're going to be criticized from head to toe for as long as you're in it.

I told you, you're too big and actually too short as well for fashion. You can TAKE fashion pics, but that doesn't mean squat. I can take pics of a quarter pounder, doesn't mean I shoot ad campaigns for Burger King. If you saw my FULL port, you'd be like, "damn! he captured her pretty good!" girls that are your size, Dawns size, etc... because i'm a FULL RANGE photographer that can shoot anybody in any setting.

YOU pigeonholed yourself saying "I can't afford to pay a photog for quality images but i'll do it if a quality photog pays me." And i'm telling you the only way that's gonna happen is if hell freezes over because there's a better selection of models out there that we'd spend our hard earned money on who will gladly do it with a professional attitude and a smile. Will they (photogs) do it for free? Probably, especially if they own a paysite ala Robert Fein but don't count on it unless you have your own paysite and a great buzz about yourself going.

I don't care if you throw a million hissyfits, i'm telling you the dead ass truth and you won't get and can't get a real photographer who knows his shit to disagree with me unless he's one of your buddies.

So go ahead and insult on, i'm not arguing with you and it doesn't change anything. i'm asking you legit questions that you can't seem to answer without getting all heated like somebody spit in your shoes lol
....
And you still didn't answer the question, what market do you THINK you fit in?

Please calm down.  The man is economical, and you have to be these days.  Gas costs more than milk after all.

He's just saying that when you shoot with film, every frame counts.  You may not shoot 200+ frames with "film" like you would with a digital camera.  It costs too much to develop, it takes too long and film is not cheap.  He's just saying that if you shoot digital, you have more freedom to get tons of useless images b/c you have so much more space on the little diskie thingie than if you were shooting rolls of film.

Now c'mon.  We're goin to the spa for a mani and pedi and a glass of wine so you can relax a bit.  These forums have gotten you all tense up.

and I think I fit in any market I deem will accpet me, BESIDES the average ass booty market...

and first of all i didnt say I demand pay from a quality photographer...I said I wouldnt recommend myself doing nudes only if to be paid...and then I came to say that later on down the road that could change but I am still juggling th bit of doing artistic nudes to expand my port....

I dont need you to drool over my port...Im not drooling over your...I dont need you to butt kiss and what not...You just assumed me and put me in a box...whether you said you didnt or not...and there is nothing GLAMOUR in my port right now so I dont know what your talking about thats what the ol boy shot and thats what you would shoot too....I  have a commercial look in there fashion in there (???) a lil something of everything from my earlier shoots..I have done.....

and even though that is a beautiful pic of miss Tiara...it isnt show much of her fashion wise....she sitting down???...she looks awesome in that pic...but thats all I see her face not her figure what the dress looks like on her...maybe you have somerhing in your port more of her i might have to check ..but that pic isnt showing what she really has....

Well, that's not really answering the question. But if you must know, which is what i'm trying to tell you and you don't want to accept it, is that with your build as you have shown us now, the market that would best accept you is the urban glamour market. As of what you've shown us so far, that would be your best niche. Don't care if you like it or not, themz da factz.

Oh i'll break em out on you like chickenpox, I just liked this one more because i'm going for a soft feel more-so than anything else, and this was the one I liked the most. Not trying to shock and wow people with booty right now, there's way too much of that going on as it is.

I think it's most interesting that she's ignored pretty much everything I've said.  Me, a black photographer who is known for shooting nude/erotic work with all body types [tfp no less].  My motto:  I shoot who shows up.

All she has to do is get here...or somewhere I'm planning to be.  And we're in business.

Cris, look at your stats...

Height:     5' 7"
Weight:     155 lbs
Measurements:     36-27-45

Compare them to models that are successful in the mainstream.
Tell me, where do you see yourself going?
Models with those stats have paysites, they do nudes and suggestive nudes, a LOT of it no matter how tacky it is and them booty mags, car shows, etc...
Unless you're sitting on some top notch acting talent that needs a tweek of refinement, where do you see yourself going????

Seriously, you really need to answer that question not for me, but for yourself.

This statement is a totally unfair projection.  I don't recall anyone in this thread mentioning anything about "ass mags" -- certainly not me.  The more this goes on the more I come to think your issue goes deeper than one experience with one photographer.

btw:  What's with the typing in ebonics?  Don't you think that's rather...unecessary?

That was my water jug.  Models have to bring their own drugs to my shoots.

How did this go from the absence of AA models in artistic nudes (which btw is probably a direct reflection on the shortage of AA models period in comparison to Caucasian ones), to Cristina Lex. . .what will you do with your career????

This is sooooooooooooo out in left field.

Actually, I believe she herself took us there.  Quite frankly, I think everything has been completely on point...Unless you think her reasons have nothing to do with why there are so few black models doing nude/erotic/fetish work.

Well stated. Furthermore, all the "slimmies" "little asses" etc comments scream insecurity.
Art nude is a very wide genre, encompassing diverse types of people (old, young, women, men, different ethnicities, tattoos, piercings, etc.). Take the blinders off.
If you want to limit yourself, that's fine. But it wouldn't make sense to blame anyone else for you limiting yourself.
