When I started shooting models, I was on the phone with a model before the upcoming shoot and she comes out and asks me how I want her grooming. There was a certain, inherent humor in the situation to me; a woman I had yet to meet in person asking me whether I wanted shaved or bald.

FWIW: I don't care for "thick", and somewhat prefer shaved to unshaved, but it's really a small thing. How the model poses, and looks at the camera, and carries herself is more more important.

Hello zombie thread!!

I'm sure I've said this before, but I don't grow mine out. I did once for a shoot, and had someone waiting with a razor as soon as my plane landed. I don't have nice pubic hair, it's light colored, patchy and scruffy and looks like a teenager's attempt at a beard. It's ugly.

I shoot almost exclusively art nudes and fetish.

Why the debate?  This is not a 'Yes' 'No' discussion. A photograph carries a message (or should) and the look of the model, the lighting, the setting, the perspective of the image, the context and so on will create that message.  Pubic hair or no pubic hair is part of the image - to re-inforce, or otherwise be a non part of the message.

One might just as well debate whether models should be short or tall, blonde or brunette, young or mature.

It's easier to market yourself if you stick with a specific "look." We're not talking about putting your hair in a bun on top of your head here. It takes months to grow back pubic hair and the in-between period is not attractive.
I literally do not own a razor and I literally have been working for years.

I used to have a preference for hair when shooting nudes but no longer. As long as the model is well shaven, it's fine.

I don't think there's a huge "demand" for either, I think it's all just based on preferences and what the whole shoot's goal/idea is.

Personally, I like to be natural.
So I go with "trimmed", which looks really pretty. Or a little patch/landing strip.
I would shave for a photographer if it was truly necessary...

They would have to pay me A LOT to grow any pubic hair for a shoot. I would only do it for the shoot then off it comes! lol. I am hairless literally from head to toe, I only have a fringe/rest of my head is shaved, no eyebrows...I like to be completely smooth. Just my preference for my own self.

i guess having pubic hair makes the photograph looks more artistic rather than just a nude picture.

From my point of view as a photographer... It would depend on the concept I'm shooting. Some times shaved would not look right and if you don't get that you don't understand being congruent in your themes and concepts.

From my personal view. It's hard to find a women that's not shaved these days. I would prefer a trim neat triangle/patch like the playboy style pubic hair of about 10-12 years ago, or landing strip it gives my targeting system something to lock on to...lol or shaved is my second choice.

Yep. I keep my nether regions furry also and haven't had much problem finding work.

The only think I don't like about having pubes is that male photographers feel the need to comment on it ALL THE TIME. You'd think that grown men who shoot naked girls often wouldn't get so amazed at the sight of pubic hair. Some photographers have even reached out and touched it without so much as asking me first (not just GWC's- serious photographers). Apparently an inappropriate act like that is excused if there's fur on the mound? I dunno what to make of it.

Reminds me of when I was going to school in New Hampshire- whenever it started snowing during school kids would run to the windows to look at it. These were kids who saw about nine feet of snow every year, and it was still a spectacle each and every time >.<

It's just pubic hair, people.

I am tattooed in a Japanese style... large coverage area... on rare occasions when in the city with tank top (really rare, except at Union Square Park), I had strangers touching my tattoos (my skin) without asking sometimes... just staring and touching... and I am a guy...

I guess when something becomes very rare... like pubic hair... people objectify "that thing" and don't recognize it as being attached to a person with boundaries.

The thing is though, tattoos aren't rare. Pubic hair isn't rare. We live in the age of information. I would think that with the Internet, google image search, etc. people wouldn't go into such a frenzy over it.

A while back Sasha Grey was on an episode of "Entourage" wherein she showed her pubic hair, and people went nuts over it. She responded on her twitter by saying something along the lines of "in case you're wondering, that's what a grown woman looks like".

I'm tempted to say the same thing to a lot of MM'ers.

True... but mine are original japanese, whole back is covered... it is not THAT common...

Anyway... I said it before and I am saying it again:

What does pubic hair and parsley have in common?

You brush both aside to get to what you really want to eat! big_smile

Personal grooming doesn't really matter to me.  I've shot models who shave or wax religiously.  I've also shot models who have never seen a razor.  For some of the commercial work I've done, it depends on what the client is wanting or needing.  I work regularly with a model that shaves and we accepted a contract for a shoot that requires her to not shave.  She's growing it out now.  The client asked for her specifically and she agreed.

I really like both personally as it gives a variety to my models.  I honestly do not understand the aversion to hair that seems to be pervading society now.  But, as a photographer, unless I require one way or the other, I'm not really concerned about it.

I'm frequently temped to TF with a beautiful girl with a beautifully trimmed little hedge.  It's more rare.  Fully shaved... it never occurs to me.  I charge.  But that's just me.  ;-)

I would grow it to a certain extent.  I like to keep it tidy and sometimes fully bare.  I could never see myself with a huge bush though.  Body hair is beautiful, but it has to be taken care of for it to be considered "art" worthy. That is my own opinion, however.

God intended for women to have pubic hair. I for one don't get this "shaved kooter" thing. If you want to trim or even it up, that's fine, especially if your pubic hair is very long and thick. But what is this attraction to look like you did before you went into puberty? Shaved legs and pits are fine, but leave the kooter alone!

You are supposed to focus on the eyes so it shouldn't matter if there is kooter hair or not....

Don't tell me how to groom myself. You REALLY don't get it to say that people who shave their pubic area (let's stop using kids words) want to look like they did before puberty. In fact, I won't even try to explain it to you, because no good would come out of it, since you're bringing God in the picture. lol

For the record, I used to shave my pubic hair. I stopped because I got tired of shaving.

A few people have said things in this thread like...shaved looks like porn; or...since when did this idea of shaving pubic hair happen..like it is some recent phenomenon related to the advent of porn or some such thing.

Well, if those persons knew anything about art (art history) they would know that the 'smooth' look has been around for centuries...even thousands of years if you take into account Renaissance sculptures often copied ancient Greek and Roman art. Here is a link 18+ which shows many many of these images (paintings and sculpture) and I don't see much pubic hair. Just setting the (art history) record straight!

So let me understand, the thing that bothers you the most about my statement is because I used the word God? And I was not telling you, or anyone else how to groom yourself. it seems you have a few unresolved issues........are you always this much of a drama queen?
