Model Club Inc... Scam or not? help please..
I would need help, maybe someone has some experience with model club Inc? I went to an open casting, and they are interessted in me. In their contract they say their usual agency book/ composotive order fee is 545. They say it is for making my coomp cards and for the fee for their agency photagrapher. After the photagrapher agreed with a tfp with me, they agreed to change it to 250. I would get 10 compcards in the beginning and if I'm out of it they restock me. Every 2 years their needs to be an reshoot to keep the compcards up to date. There is no end of contract, I can stay as long as I want, but every 2 years is the fee again. Can I trust them?help please Sep 16 10 11:33 pm Link Hey I just checked out on m.bbb.org and found out model club inc is not accredited... Anybody help please... Sep 17 10 04:35 am Link Just the fact that they approached YOU means they have a sales force, and are selling something. ...and probably not your best deal. Sales forces are expensive. (RUN) Sep 17 10 03:49 pm Link I was signed with Model Club a while back. I don't think the fee sounds outrageous,- some agencies do charge for comp cards, website etc... You say you would get 10 cards to start, but how many will they have / will be printed the first time? Redoing your pictures and comp cards every 2 years is not unusual either. So, in all, I think they are legitimate, and I have met models at casting calls who are with them. Now, while I don't like to speak badly about anyone...I will say this... They did not send me on very many casting calls, and I felt they did not do their best to represent me, so I looked elsewhere and signed with another agency a short while later. (Even after I'd been signed with Model Club, had my photo shoot (with an independent photographer- at the time, they didn't have "their own"), and as I recall, even had my comps made, I still had not met the director, so I asked for an appointment to speak with him...and he was soooo unfriendly and rude) Best wishes whatever you decide! (Maybe try other agencies too, before you decide) Sep 17 10 04:30 pm Link Generally, as a rule of thumb: if you have to ask, it's a scam! What makes me a little edgy about this situation, however, is their in-house photographer. While I know photographers will book with agencies, my experiences show that in-house photographers are a tell-tale sign of a scam [Sheesh, I butchered that explanation!] Sep 17 10 05:16 pm Link $250 for TEN comp cards? Why do you think this sounds reasonable? Sep 17 10 05:34 pm Link maryelle stclare wrote: 10 cards is what SHE gets, to begin with, to give out at castings.... Sep 17 10 05:51 pm Link If she is paying for the comp cards, why do they get to dole them out? They don't have a list of agency approved photographers? I've heard mixed reviews from that agency from a few models. Sep 17 10 06:31 pm Link Haruvamp wrote: It's not unusual to pay upfront for an agency book, comp cards etc. But after 2 years, shouldn't they have booked you some jobs so you have tear sheets to update your book with...? Nothing wrong with paying for new shots if you need them, even if you've been modeling for a while, but that's a decision you will have to take when the time comes, nothing that should be decided by your agency 2 years in advance. Sep 19 10 06:40 pm Link Modelogic in richmond does the same thing. but it is $950 it comes with compcards, and 1 week class on how to model. they are affiliated with Wilhelmina Models so people think they will get the WM on the cards, which they do. out of the thousands that they say are modelogic Wilhelmina Models, only like 10% actually get jobs. the rest, they just sucker into paying for more compcars year after year. Sep 19 10 06:47 pm Link RUN it is a scam! Sep 19 10 06:48 pm Link Wow, I just happened to see this online about The Model Club, and even though it's an older post, I would like to give my opinion, as I was signed with them! Keep your purse closed, and find another agent! I paid $800.00 for awful photo's, and comp cards! As soon as they got their money, never heard from them again! Run! May 27 11 03:02 pm Link |
