Not interested in starting a class.  Asking because I was recently asked by a friend who lives in another city about expanding more of her knowledge.  She lives in portland.

But I'm going to create a database/resource page on my site for any/all photogs that teach seminars / classes / etc - for either beginner or advanced photography.   Also let me know if it's a regular or random thing.

i'm thinking about doing some classes out of our studio in salem. show people how to use flash (studio and shoe-mount) plus a lightroom/photoshop workflow for editing and retouching. just don't know if people will want that sort of thing without having a model but if i hire a couple models then i either have to charge accordingly or just do it for exposure and let the money go to the models.

I teach adult photo classes (Beginner, Portrait, Digital Editing) via City of Chandler and Mesa Art Center in AZ.  My wife works for AK Air so I'm in Portland and Seattle all the time and give private lessons as well.

I've provided 'photographic lighting assistance' (I guess you could call that instruction) over the last 300+ SM photoshoot events since 1993... wink

www.santafeworkshops.com for the win. (That is, if you want a first class workshop experience.)

I teach basic photography to hobbyists. I try to excite the hobbyist into switching their camera off of full auto and explore the possibilities. Also the "basic" rules of a good image and how to break those rules when it is appropriate. Its a starting point for many photographers but gets them out of the "snapshot" box....

for shame... for shame, woman...

the NERVE to think that this would somehow turn into a shameless plug fest, where much like some kind of a 3 nippled corner bodega whore, organizer after organizer will come in and just plug away their workshops...

i for one am above this petty plugging business, so i will not mention that i run a series of kick-ass shootouts often at awesome locations, and workshops featuring lighting demos and instruction by Stephen Eastwood... and i will not step so low as to encourage people to sign up to our mailing list... that would simply be beneath me...

for shame... for shame, woman smile

ps... the one we had today went great smile

I regularly teach workshops in-studio and on-location, mostly catering to the crowd that are looking for basic lighting, Photoshop, and posing. One-on-one and group workshops, based in Minnesota.

You can easily help your friend at a long distance by giving photo assignments designed to exercise different clusters of knowledge, and give reading assignments to go along with it, and then critique the results.

Tutoring, being one-on-one, is different from classes, and also different from seminars, though one hopes that a seminar is not so packed as to severely limit the one-on-one time with the student.

Write out (for your benefit as a tutor) a list of things that a skilled photographer should know, as broad clumps of knowledge.  Then go through the student's photos and/or quizz them and get a sense of the state of their knowledge.  Then you can make a list of topics to tutor and go from there.

That way the tutoring is customized for the student, which is why people prefer tutoring if they can get it.

I've taken on intern students. Mostly ones who study art with photography as part of their studies.
