I've seen billions of female nudes shot by male photographers, millions of male nudes shot by male photographers, hundreds of female nudes by female photographers.

But where are the male nudes by female photographers (and female artists).

Women photographers, I'd like to see your take on the male nude.  And why aren't you shooting more of them?

I've got a separate nude portfolio, and've had the honor of shooting with one male model. They're tough to find these days, but it was still a pleasure! If the chance ever comes up again, i'd take it in a heartbeat. The reason they're not in my portfolio still, is because my style has changed since.

I wish I could findthe pics, but it's been so long i'm not sure sad

Here's his portfolio, and his avi is mine at least wink

I know. He left MM/deleted the pics a while ago. That's about as close as I get to linking him/showing the pics, though!

I do photograph lots of nude men, I show naked men in gallery shows, I do at least one male nude commission a month. There are several issues about women who photograph nude men.

1. There are just enough "fake studios" that are fronts for prostitution that the women who run legit photography studios get several calls a week from guys looking for adult services other then nude photography.

Male boudoir photography

2. Many women just are not comfortable hanging with the guys, they are happy to do boudoir work with other women but they do not allow men in their studios, I feel that this comes from the negative stereotypical gender issues of all unknown men that are big scary rapists. All women are victims. This type of gender fear stops many people from working together.

Due to the above issues a number of my male clients are pretty damn shy, I receive calls in the studio about once a week from guys who know what they want, great nekked photos to give to their wife, but they are not sure how to ask, or even how to bring up the subject to a woman. Once they learn that I'm not shocked, I have not hung up the phone, & yes I do shoot nude guy clients. they relax and let me know what they are looking for in more detail.

Oodles of awesome male nude pictures below!!!

I've shot one nude model but it wasn't interesting at all...nor appealing.

He watched fishing on tv while asking me to take pics of him laying naked in bed.

Yeah...real fucking interesting!

Show me a real male model who wants to do nudes and be fully in the moment of the shoot and yeah I'd shoot.

But watch fishing while asking me to shoot your ass nude?

Bitch please.

I'm kind of getting the drift that male nudes as a subject for female photographers doesn't engender much enthusiasm.

Am I wrong?

Let's just say that the one encounter I've had wasn't exactly putting me in the mood to seek out another male nude shoot.

Never had as many opportunities to shoot with male models as female models.  I like shooting them equally.  But there are more female models out there interested in shooting.

I have a female friend who shoots male nudes, her complaint has always been that when she approaches a man to ask him to work with her, so many seem to take it as a come on. It'd be funny if it wasn't so tragically true and a sad reflection on men.

Just not every male model is willing to shoot nude, or implied nude.

That, unfortunately, has happened to me also. Some men think you want to just sleep with them, not photograph them. Funny, eh? Not really.

I'd do it all the time, but men tend to be self-conscious about their genitalia, so it's difficult to find subjects who are willing to actually be nude.

There is, however, an entire magazine devoted to female photographers shooting male subjects, if you want to check it out:  Filament Magazine

Although I model nude, my lack of AB's and above average age seem to drive the female photographer's away.

Actually yes I do. Don't get me wrong here I would shoot another male model nude if the model can bring his game to the set...if not then don't waste my time.

Same as with a female nude.

Bring your game or stay home.

I've been nude and drawn by female artists..
I've been nude and shot by female photographers...

It's actually pretty common, although if your frame of reference is entirely based on modeling sites like MM, it may not seem so. But there are some around here.

I don't have any digital examples of my work with the artists in college, but there are some shots by Monique at Blacklight Studios MM#2032 in my port.

I'm not working with more because:
1) There aren't that many male models around here worth shooting.
2) The few who look good know it, so they won't do trade. I'm poor.
3) The older amateurs are exhibitionists who hope you're coming on to them
4) The younger amateurs are terrified, even though you have an assistant in the room.

NOT worth the hassle.  I wish I could find a group of good looking gay men to shoot.

I am male, American, and have joked that my parents "had never skinny dipped in their life."  Such was my life until about 11 years ago.

First figurative art I dabbled in was sculpture, then on/off over time, drawing... then figure drawing.  First figure drawing I did, which looked right, without any help from a teacher, was drawn from a male model, he was one of the two males they could find.  One reason I got that drawing right was when I looked at his pose - I could feel the pose in my own body, with enough drawing ability I got something decent to the paper.  Small steps of success...

I agree with the observation - "millions of male nudes shot by male photographers, hundreds of female nudes by female photographers."  ...billions of Female nudes shot by male photographers...

My first experience modeling nude was for a female photographer, it was both scary, exciting, felt vulnerable, etc...  Huge step outside my comfort zone.   Knew it would turn out fine because: 1) She had a well established body of work which meant I could trust her. 2) I felt comfortable because images in her portfolio included artistic, fetish, and erotic images...  both male and female...  some was very impressive...

At the shoot she asked me a short list of yes/no questions, parameters for the shoot, then we got started. I followed her directions during the 2 hour shoot.   After she burned a CD of the images gave them to me, I paid her for the shoot, plus copy rights.  She later e-mailed me that there was an image she wanted to use on her website - a very nervious rookie model, image good enough for her website.  Decided not to let her use it because I could not step outside the non-identifiable image boundary I still have.  I have some regrets not letting her use it because:

1) It is art - I should not be ashamed of it.

2) Chances of someone I know finding it are near zero.

3) As a average male, I didn't leave a I had a good experience message to others in my shoes, "do it"...

The whole experience was very liberating... I've done similar shoots few more times, gotten more comfortable doing it, but still not totally comfortable - which is fine.  I can live with me - as I am...  The few shoots I've done on the whole have been good experiences to look back at.  Going through the process, it has helped me learn how to step through other things I've wanted to do...

Tony Porter said during a TED talk - "my liberation as a man is tied to your liberation as a woman."  As a culture we are not whole enough, comfortable with each other, to handle the situation described here by the OP...

Interesting insights.  I think your body paint work is terrific as well.

A woman painter in the neighborhood has figure sessions open to all every other week, and she told me she quit using older male models because, as she said, "the older the guy is, the weirder he seems to act."

You do know there are websites for guys where they share their thought how to "exhibit themselves" the most while modeling?  They talk about their fantasies, and you are quite right, the older ones are the worst.  Male modeling nude for female artists has become a regular fetish in itself.

I don't look at the gender of the photographer and don't judge photos differently based on the gender of the model or the gender of the photographer.

I judge an image on its merits (or lack thereof.)

As an artist, I know this thread is well-intentioned, but I think it is inadvertently very sexist in that it implies some difference between male and female photographers.  Tell that to Holly Randall, Sita Mae, Stacey Leigh, Viva Van Story, Renee Jacobs, Sylvie Blum, Mary Wano, Iris and the rest of the many very talented female photographers on this site.

If you have an interest in seeing male nude imagery, that's one thing.  I think any inquiry as to the gender of the artist is inappropriate.

(sorry if this seems condescending or, at all, a threadjack. I just felt it was worth noting.)
