definition of a "plus size" model

I first thought I was getting insulted until I found out that New York plus size is now incorporates size 8 at 5'11" -- and I'm a pants size 8 due to my hips/butt. Having now read a little more I think I understand the difference between a plus-size woman and a plus-size model. The latter is what you use in fashion/clothing shoots to make the former feel better about themselves! Just as regular models are size 0 and modelling clothes aimed at more woman wearing 4/6/8/10 sizes, so it goes for larger sizes. Honestly, I don't see much work in the fashion line for the real size 18/20/1x/2x woman - at least not as plus-size models. It means I am a little cautious when someone contacts me as a plus-size model - it's not that I won't/can't work with a real plus-size - but now I do want to know for sure so I know what I'm working with. Oct 11 12 08:57 pm Link Plus size in modeling and the real world are different. Regular models and regular women in the real world are different. Don't get me started on "average" sizes of women either. I took my son into his pediatrician this week and the doctor told me I was "skinny". I told him I was not and what my BMI was. I think we are all used to seeing women that don't fit in the middle. If plus sized models are meant to make plus sized women feel better about themselves than what do regular models make regular women feel like!? The industry is backwards in many areas.
