In the USA a agency signed model according the the DOL makes less then $20.00 per hour and has a average income of $40.000 a year.   http://www.ehow.com/about_7404441_avera … model.html   Location is the key with a NY model who might average $60,00 to $100,00 vs. a model in a smaller market.

Very few models, male or female, are on salary.  Some make millions (not very many) some make nothing (probably the majority) but agency or freelance, it's generally job by job.

The average income is going to differ a lot based on their day job wink

I remember one model who billed $150/hr; in her day job.  Some sort of high end network management.

It differs so greatly from model to model based on so many factors: age, location, look, skill, attitude, etc. Your average model is living very modestly (based on the majority of models I've met in various markets).

That's good tongue

If one can pay their rent/bills by modeling alone, it IS their full-time gig.

No self respecting sugardaddy would let a girl pay for her own shoes!

As everyone has said, it differs from market, type of modeling, if they have a day job that brings in other income, etc.

Currently I model full time in Seattle with regular trips to Portland.  I'm primarily commercial/print with some promotional work when things are slow.  No nudes.  So far this month I have booked $3k of work.  If only it didn't all go to student loans...sigh.

Aside from paid work I do a very small handful of TF shoots each month - either  personal projects with friends or book updates.

Most of my work is via agency or via other avenues I've networked.  MM is not a significant source of income for me (probably because I don't do nudes and my standard half day/full day rates are a bit steep for people not shooting commercially).  MM can be relatively useful for finding people to test with though.

Being with an agency isn't necessarily the golden ticket.  I know agency exclusive models who make $0 a month.  I know MM models who make make a living from it.

Modeling is not the job for a reliable paycheck.  You likely won't know what will happen from month to month.  Sometimes you're the dog, sometimes you're the fire hydrant.  Like anything it's all a bit of luck and using the skills you have to the best of your ability.

I saw many models come and go in agencies which quite normal, some doesn't have the look and what it takes. But they keep doing and knocking at doors. Some starting to get old and competing with 15-16 years old it's not that easy, chances are slim. It's fine to have a dream but sometimes you have to be realistic, get a degree, get a reliable job that paid instead and do this in sideway...

Most of the models I know are extremely smart, and aren't likely to post their income on a public forum.
Much better to stay poor as churchmice publicly.

I definitely agree. I too, am a model in Seattle. It all depends on what you're booked. The looks of the industry change all the time, so if you book a bunch this season, you may not next season. Be sure to keep your cool. I know my agency doesn't book me unless they haggle a certain price, which often allows me to make over $1000 per day. However, I'm new to modeling and haven't booked much, or with big clients.

Really your question should have been "What is the average salary of full-time models that make a living from modeling?"

If you take ALL "models" (like most on MM) into consideration, the average wage is close to $0 per hour.
