I think all of the above were YN460II flashes... might be a Sunpak 622 tossed in there somewhere.

Do you use multiple flashes in your modifiers? And how do you keep them from blowing away?

Usually just the one. I think all the images I linked were single units. And I keep them from blowing away the same way everyone else does with any kind of flashes. a) don't shoot in windy situations or b) weigh everything down.

All my outdoor shots are with speedlights. Usually an SB700 on hotshoe as CLS controller and to provide catch lights and a small amount of shadow fill (1.5-2 stops down from main light). One or two remote CLS SB900s.

This one had SB700 on camera with SB900 into reflective umbrella close to the models right side:

SB700 on camera, SB900 into small soft box close to model on her right, SB900 with blue gell near ground behind model on her left:

SB700 on camera, with SB900 with snoot on models left:

one speedlight, kleenex modifier

Very nice, Karl.   Great work.

I have some ideas spinning around in my head to play a bit with longer night exposures, flash on model, and then painting the environment with light and additional flashes.      Should be fun.

18+ image shot with my D800 and on camera SB800 with a Fong Diffuser attached. The unit is tripod mounted to use a slow shutter speed to capture the ambient light.

Speedlight Nikon SB 26 handheld by assistant 90 degrees to the right of me. Off camera flash behind me triggered assistants flash at the bottom of the stairs.

My camera on tripod... don't remember exposure time and settings, but it was already night.
