Elinchrom, who's shooting with them ???

My modifiers are not Elinchrom though. I have some Chimera softboxes/octa and a Mola beauty dish. Dec 03 12 09:43 pm Link I've been shooting with Elinchroms for 30 years. Currently using Elinchrom Micro AS 3000 packs and Classic 6,000 w/s packs I like being able to use A heads for high speed flash and thr slower S heads for FP flash mode to support very high speed sync with the Nikon D800. Flash sync at 1/8000th of a second at any power setting with the S Heads. More range and flexibility than even Phase One with leaf shutter lenses. My two favorite modelers for them ( apart from my own designs) are the SL35 giant Fresnel Spot and the Kitchen Sink 44x44 cm gridded box. Sold them and paid off my car, then bought a dozen speedlites with the remainder. I just don't use them in such a way that their better features are in fact... better. Dec 03 12 10:16 pm Link I have a pretty complete Elinchrom system and am loving it. I've added a grid for the beauty dish, another RX600, and a couple of miscellaneous pieces. The skyports work great, their softboxes are wonderful and I've really not had any problems with the exception of an RX600 that crashed 10 ft down onto the concrete. More of the work I show on my webpage (food and product shots especially) shot with studio lights than the stuff I show here (although the newest shot has a couple heads out of frame aimed at the model from behind). Dec 03 12 11:27 pm Link I shoot with Elinchrome 2 BXRi500 2 square soft boxes 1 Snoot 1 Deep Octa (the small one) Just got a portable battery pack to use them on location In my portfolio all the Cool Cool Rain pictures are shot with the elinchrome, I also have 2 triggers to be able to add 2 speed lights if I need to add more effects to the picture  can't wait to sue them on location where I have been using Speedlights for now Dec 04 12 03:07 am Link I largely shoot everything with my Elinchroms, I've got several heads and plenty of different modifiers though my 1m x 1m softboxes get the most use. Dec 04 12 06:21 am Link I still shoot sometimes with others Elincrom, but don't really like them. Their accessories are lightweight, good for transporting but fragile, and not robust. Their optical and IR cells are not really compatible with other flash and when you leave them in full sun, they are ( optical slaves) unreliable. These days if using the radio triggers though there are no problems I could find. The Ranger series is nice, not too expensive, and does what it should. Also am liking the indirect Octa and beauty dish..I think they are worth every penny.. Dec 04 12 03:06 pm Link A number of years ago, I attended a group shoot, and a photographer had recently bought a pair. I got the name of the salesman he dealt with and went to buy the exact same package. But the 600RX's had just be released and there was a sale! Bought a pair, and accessories. They are wonderful to use. My first experience was actually with the ranger and I had thought it had a slightly weird light quality to it, but in retrospect I think it just wasn't the right light for what I was doing. I ended up buying the BxRi 500/250 set for versatility in small spaces and i have no complaints about the look, i'm just not crazy about the physical design of everything. This is the only thing i shot with it that has a person so far. They'll probably pick up some use as winter approaches and no one wants to go outside. Setup was something like 1 light reflector only front left for some shots, then 2 lights gridded on left & back right. I don't really know, but figured I'd try to remember for whoever wants to know.  Dec 04 12 08:40 pm Link Not a longtime user, but it was my first company 4 years ago for lighting equip. I have 2 600rxs, 2 ranger packs and 5 heads for those packs I have the 53" octa, a 22" mola. 2 57x57" quadra softoxes I just picked up Several reflectors, snoots and hopefully will pick up some stripboxes at some point and possibly a bigger mola 42" maybe?
