Travel Arrangments
I have a question, If you get a request to travel to another state or even just a different city in the same state for a shoot and it's required that all expenses are to be paid by the person requesting you, are they to pay for an additional person if you require an escort to come along? People can ask for whatever they want though and there's probably someone somewhere who will just roll over and say yes. Dec 10 12 11:29 am Link Dec 10 12 11:33 am Link Oh ok. Just wondering because I've seen people that say they will travel if all expenses are paid and some that require an escort to be with them. I say avoid all that noise and just hire true professionals. Dec 10 12 11:41 am Link Christie Gabriel wrote: +1000 Dec 10 12 11:41 am Link People can negotiate whatever they wish. I think much depends on who is trying to get who to travel. If I put out a casitng call for local models, but a model from further afield is interested, I certainly don't feel it's my obligation to pay her more than I'd pay those who live close by. On the other hand, if I'm approaching a model and asking her to travel to me, then it's more likely I'll offer to cover her expenses. I live in the boonies. When doing TF, I often offer to pay for a model's travel from the nearest big city. If I didn't what incentive to they have to come travel to shoot with me instead of shoot with photographers closer to home? Dec 10 12 11:43 am Link Yes, THEY should to pay the travel expenses of the additional person being that escorts are not actually apart of nor contribute to a successful photo shoot. jf Dec 10 12 11:44 am Link SH PhotographyAndDesign wrote: Uh NO. I've seen people that say if their llama herder can't come then don't bother working with them. But as some of you say, people can request anything Dec 10 12 11:58 am Link I would handle it this way. Negotiate a travel budget up front. Pay it, either before hand (if you trust the traveler) or upon arrival (if the traveler is new-to-you). Let the traveler decide how to spend the money; I don't need to know. Separately negotiate whether an escort is permitted during the session. A compromise might be that the escort can show up at the door & can look around, then the escort can make themselves scarce for the session, returning at a set time. Dec 10 12 12:34 pm Link I require my dog come with me everywhere I go. Fido needs to go to the groomer before I put him in the car, you'll pay his bills won't you? We use the really expensive frooofroo groomer, that's 200 dollars for a bath. If they're someone that, for some strange reason, you just HAVE to work with, do what you gotta do I guess. Personally, no I would never do that, that's ridiculous. Dec 10 12 12:54 pm Link While I agree wholeheartedly with my esteemed colleagues that escorts are not a payable expectation... if I had the chance and the money to paint some of the people on my bucket list... I'd pay what ever it took. Dec 10 12 01:11 pm Link Christie Gabriel wrote: This. Dec 10 12 01:20 pm Link No. Unless the person who has offered to pay for travel expenses approved the "escort". There are always others that can travel on their own without needing to hold someone's hand. It is easier to control the cost, and I don't have to deal with inflated numbers. If the model is driving in then it is x amount is stated before the shoot is stated to cover gas, if they need to a hotel I book the room. If they need an escort it comes out of the model's pocket for the expense of travel, lodging and food. Dec 10 12 02:17 pm Link When you are hired to work professionally as a model, no real company will also pay travel expenses for your llama herder/friend/bf/travel companion. The only exceptions to this are celebrities/performers/musicians where the contract to hire them clearly specifies the travel requirements as part of their fees. Dec 11 12 06:32 am Link Mostly the demand for an "escort" is inversely proportional to the attractiveness of the job offered to a model. If you offer air fare to Paris (France), a hotel room and an adequate payment and allow no escorts you will see that the demand for an "escort" will get virtually zero. Unless you are dealing either with a bitch overestimating her/himself - or a real star... Dec 13 12 03:41 am Link |
