PHOTOGRAPHERS SEMINAR WHOA NELLIE! Hold the presses we are doing something different!
We have secured an agreement from the world famous photographer, lecturer and educator GW Burns to have a mini lighting workshop at this Meet & Greet!
GW Burns: http://www.modelmayhem.com/11291
Beginning at 3:30 GW will give an abbreviated version of his Lightmaster Photography Seminar. As you can see from his main page, this seminar is usually $550.00 to attend. So to have a Master Craftsman of this talent speak at our event is quite a bonus!
THE LIGHTMASTER LECTURE IS FREE TO ATTEND, BUT SPACE IS LIMITED SO LET ME KNOW IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND
Our hope is that you will find this lecture an extra value which will encourage you to attend and that after hearing the short version you will also want to book one of GW's full Seminars and learn that your pop up flash is not really the only choice you have to light your subject.
Photographers - Chance to mingle, meet, network, get your questions answered in person by any one of your peers, eyeball potential models for future assignments before you book them, meet new models that you never knew looked so good that you definately will book in the future.
Models - Chance to mingle, meet, network, network, network and start booking shoots. There will be a lot of photogs there. If you can't book work out of a meet & greet, or at least talk to a photog about booking in the future, you need to rethink your approach to this business. Cause seriously, there are guys there looking to shoot.
MUA's - Again...network, network, network. I actually feel that you have the hardest job of booking work of all the parties involved in a shoot. And to be given an opportunity to make personal pitches to 50, 80, 100 people... That's a no brainer.
What the heck is a meet & greet? The meet & greet is designed as a chance to meet new people, swap stories with old friends and talk bad about the others while they go pee.
It's not a shoot out, it's not a casting call. It is a purely social event for members of Model Mayhem so you can put a face to a name of people you have been chatting with, or have seen on the site and to network with your industry peers in a casual social setting without concerns for safety or pressures to enter into contracts or perform. Purely social, purely fun.
What to bring I suggest everybody bring business cards. It is primarily a meet & greet after all. And yes I will remember your name for whatever length of time it take you to go get me a drink, but much after that...you become what's her name in the red dress. Remember...like most photographers I'm old.Tough to find you and book you like that.
Models - You might want to bring a change of cloths or 2. A lot of models like to show up in something jaw dropping and then change into a swimsuit for pictures at sunset, then into casual cloths for drinks afterwards. Others prefer to just come and mingle and wear what they wear. Either way works, but if you have thought ahead you have options if you run into "The" photographer that you have always wanted to shoot with and who wants to shoot you right there.
Photographers - Bring your camera. Yeah you're not going to shoot. Yeah you are only there to mingle. But throw it in the trunk at the very least. Who knows what may happen. What not to bring? 87 studio lights. This place is small. If you can't shoot with only a flash on the camera you are probably not going to be able to shoot in the venue. You might be able to shoot on the beach or around the building with some flash units on stands, but truthfully for this event, go light and then set up a formal shoot for another time.
Everybody - If you have a printed portfolio they go over real well at these meets. Folks love to look at ports. Granted they may be somewhat unweildy, but they are real good conversation starters.
How to actThis event is designed for you to meet people you have never met before. I understand that this is a toughie for a lot of folks. But if you come in, get a drink, stand against the wall and don't mingle...you have totally missed the boat. You MUST be outgoing. It's challenging for you, it's interesting to do, it's in your best interest, and once you start doing it, it will pay off. How do I do that? You ask... Well as difficult as it sounds, you take your cards and you walk up to that group of people standing there, wait for a lull in the conversation and say...Hi my name is Gertrude (Truthfully you should use your own name here...unless you like Gertrude..then have at it) I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello! Then hand everybody a card.
You then chat with that group for a bit AND THEN MOVE ON! Getting bogged down with only one person or only one group is sometimes as bad as superglueing yourself to a spot on the wall and not moving. Now once you have worked the entire room, then you can go back and spend more time with your new besties...but till then...mix, mingle, network, move on. If you have trouble, come see me and I'll introduce you around.
If you want to shoot, set it up before, after, or shoot just outside around the building
Pm me now to get on the list, OR, you could post in the thread proclaiming your fervent desire to attend.
