Hi all,

Seeing as I do not believe in one-sidedness in this industry, I was wondering if there are any photographers on here who have worked with models who have ulterior motives (both male and female alike)?  If so, how did you deal with the problem?

Remember, females can be sexual predators as well - it's just that in society we are more wont to paint the male up as a predator and a female as the victim.

No.

I shot with one photographer who no longer allowed escorts because while shooting, the escort made off with his wallet (which he shouldn't have left out of his pocket anyway) and a few small pieces of equipment. So I guess that may have been a pre-plotted thing between model and escort.

I think he's specifically asking about flirty / creepy behavior though.

It's going to be less common for a variety of reason, including the simple fact that relatively few males mind being flirted with.

Like 20 years ago, when I would still approach random pretty girls I met to shoot, I would get mildly aggressive, sexually flirty behavior periodically. I wouldn't call it creepy necessarily or an ulterior motive. I just think the girls had difficulty distinguishing a serious photographer from a damn good pick-up tactic.

Photographers can be female too.

I had a female photog fail to pay me, for assistant work.
Then she moved out of town the next week.
Probably why she delayed paying me. She knew she was leaving town, but didnt tell anyone.
Then I found out she also stole some stuff off the set from a wardrobe stylist.

I've only ever had one model leave my set with a pair of jeans that didnt belong to her. Eventually got them back after police became involved.

I hate thieves.

I can't say that I've ever had a model behave inappropriately toward me.  Of course at my age that would be more laughable than lustful.  On the other hand, and maybe again because of my age, I'm pretty safe, just too darned old to be a real problem, I've had several that were loose and teasing in a mildly flirty way.

Maybe the problem is sometimes that we, on both sides of the camera, are so self-consciously serious about ourselves that we've forgotten how to play and have fun while we work.  Then we add to it by repeating rumors ("Never happened to me, of course, but my boyfriend/girlfriend once knew someone who told him/her that , , , ) and of course, people being people, the more juicy and salacious the story, the more likely we are to believe it.  Kinda sad but it's the way people are sometimes.

So any time a beautiful young woman, young enough to be my granddaughter, wants to kid around and tease me, I'm gonna take it in the intent with which it's offered.  After all, I'm too old to fight and too fat to run, so what's left but to enjoy it? wink

There are photographers/models on MM who are involved, dating, married, etc. To each his/her own. Live and let live.

Me? No, I've never had a model go beyond flirting with me at a shoot.

Once, while shooting for a magazine I had a model ask me to rub baby oil on her legs for her. I thought that was kind of out of line flirty, but I was still happy to help wink even tho it was kind of awkward at the moment.

I had a situation with a female model that came in to my studio for an interview and brought her boyfriend along. She had called that day wanting to come in, saying that another model (without mentioning a name) had given her my number.

While I was speaking with the girl, I noticed he was looking around without much interest in our conversation, but with more interest as to what was in the studio. At the time, I just wrote it off as normal curiosity.

Three days later (on Thanksgiving Day) my studio was broken into and cameras, lenses, and strobes were stolen.

It was a professional job, they were in the studio less than 5 minutes (according to my alarm company) and even left some false clues (somebody's business card) to throw the police off.

Fortunately, I was insured for 'replacement value' for all the stolen equipment and within a few days had bought new versions of everything that was taken.

Needless to say, I never heard from the 'model' again . . . . It was apparent that her motives had nothing to do with being photographed

I was shooting a "model" a client picked out in studio once and it turns out her day job (yes, she worked during the day) was she was a stripper. No big deal, but she tried faux hitting on me to try and get me to give her all the photos from the shoot. It was so obviously fake and sounded just like the lines I'm sure she used to lure guys into the VIP room.

And no, she did not get the photos.

One of my model friends told me about another model she knew who was basically using this photographer we'd worked with on several occasions. It was pretty sad. She was gorgeous and the type to be able to pull out the puppy dog eyes and get pretty much anything she wanted. Basically she was living with her boyfriend, they broke up and he kicked her out, and she knew a photographer with a home studio. She somehow used her... ah... feminine wiles... to get the photographer to put her up for a night or two which turned into a several months long "relationship" in which she received a ton of free photos from being his personal muse, not to mention a free place to live in exchange for... girlfriend-like behavior. And then she up and left him as soon as she got a better offer and then bragged to my friend about it later.

I've heard lots of thief stories too. Especially to do with escorts.

A male model was quite obviously turned on sexually by the act of nude modeling.

Another male model was shady and possibly trying to set me up, which didn't occur to me until later.

A female model asked me if I'd even been with a Black woman, then asked if would show her "my thing". The shoot was on 4/1, so it was either an attempt at an April fool's joke or somehow the shoot was a turn-on (it was a fully-clothed outdoor shoot).

None of these situations dire enough to require ending the shoot of taking other actions.

I've had model dudes here ask me if I wanted to do a shoot with them like we're "both in love" in PM's......not just some shoot but a sexy shoot.

It usually starts as a compliment and a thank you but as the conversation goes, the motives appear clearer and clearer

I've been contacted by at least 4 "models" here who were prostitutes. Their profiles were already taken down by the time I knew what was going on.

Perhaps there is more to it than the "one-sidedness" of the industry.

Ok, earnestly - of course women can be molesters or even rapists. But I think false accusation of being molested by a (male) photographer is a somewhat greater risk in this context.

Yes.

About 14 years ago I had a model book me for a portfolio-building shoot up to nude/permissive-nude.
I didn't realise it at the time but she was using the shoot as a pretext to 'get back' at her ex...

I ended up dating her, though it all went horribly wrong in the end.

Quite a few models around here work as 'exotic dancers' in the local clubs... At least I know there are no issues with nudity and hanging upside-down on scaffolding poles keeps them fit and toned if nothing else...

One need only read all the comments that this thread will invariably get saying "I WISH models would hit on me, I need some ass" or something similar to realize that the premise here isn't really a societal inaccuracy.

There was one llama here who would offer a really low rate then at the shoot quote a much higher one for which she'd do "anything".....

..which actually has a certain logic to it as is she'd mentioned that openly on MM she'd attract every sleazebag going and/or price herself out of the market with other photogs, whereas her approach allowed her to size up and see if they'd be worth doing it with

As a model, I've been approached by other models without the purest intentions. I agreed to do a shoot with a male model that failed to tell me the photographer was interested in shooting actual sex -- not just chill art nudes out in nature. Thankfully that was cleared up well in advance. But it normally doesn't get past messages asking for shitty makeout couples shoots that I'm definitely not interested in doing.

Sounds like they both got what they wanted. More power to 'em.

Over the years I've had a few that were "flirty", but nothing physically inappropriate. The worst would probably be a model that showed up for a TF shoot and then asked about the compensation, basically trying to get cash when the only offer was for images. The door is right there underneath the big red "exit" sign.

isn't that part of the human condition? wanting to be desirable, to be desired. of course if people were honest i imagine some of the sex that takes place is more based on strategy (like i need a place to stay for a bit) than love. still, i've never had bad sex (well, one girl used too much teeth and i was a bit sore the next day).

Every woman who is nude in front of me flirts with me.

Of course, the setting is always a strip club.

I believe that the models do not arrive with ulterior motives.

They may form during the shoot and may be realized after the shoot, but I don't believe that they are there before.

But that's only because I don't make any claims that I can further anyone's career.  Perhaps if I were Stephen Wayda or Arny Freytag, I would have a different perspective to draw from.
