Models with ulterior motives
Hi all, Seeing as I do not believe in one-sidedness in this industry, I was wondering if there are any photographers on here who have worked with models who have ulterior motives (both male and female alike)? If so, how did you deal with the problem? Remember, females can be sexual predators as well - it's just that in society we are more wont to paint the male up as a predator and a female as the victim. I wouldn't call it creepy necessarily or an ulterior motive. I just think the girls had difficulty distinguishing a serious photographer from a damn good pick-up tactic. Of course at my age that would be more laughable than lustful. On the other hand, and maybe again because of my age, I'm pretty safe, just too darned old to be a real problem, I've had several that were loose and teasing in a mildly flirty way. Maybe the problem is sometimes that we, on both sides of the camera, are so self-consciously serious about ourselves that we've forgotten how to play and have fun while we work. Then we add to it by repeating rumors ("Never happened to me, of course, but my boyfriend/girlfriend once knew someone who told him/her that , , , ) and of course, people being people, the more juicy and salacious the story, the more likely we are to believe it. Kinda sad but it's the way people are sometimes. So any time a beautiful young woman, young enough to be my granddaughter, wants to kid around and tease me, I'm gonna take it in the intent with which it's offered. After all, I'm too old to fight and too fat to run, so what's left but to enjoy it? She had called that day wanting to come in, saying that another model (without mentioning a name) had given her my number. While I was speaking with the girl, I noticed he was looking around without much interest in our conversation, but with more interest as to what was in the studio. At the time, I just wrote it off as normal curiosity. Three days later (on Thanksgiving Day) my studio was broken into and cameras, lenses, and strobes were stolen. It was a professional job, they were in the studio less than 5 minutes (according to my alarm company) and even left some false clues (somebody's business card) to throw the police off. Fortunately, I was insured for 'replacement value' for all the stolen equipment and within a few days had bought new versions of everything that was taken. Needless to say, I never heard from the 'model' again . . . . Jan 03 13 07:25 pm Link I was shooting a "model" a client picked out in studio once and it turns out her day job (yes, she worked during the day) was she was a stripper. No big deal, but she tried faux hitting on me to try and get me to give her all the photos from the shoot. It was so obviously fake and sounded just like the lines I'm sure she used to lure guys into the VIP room. And no, she did not get the photos. It was pretty sad. She was gorgeous and the type to be able to pull out the puppy dog eyes and get pretty much anything she wanted. Basically she was living with her boyfriend, they broke up and he kicked her out, and she knew a photographer with a home studio. She somehow used her... ah... feminine wiles... to get the photographer to put her up for a night or two which turned into a several months long "relationship" in which she received a ton of free photos from being his personal muse, not to mention a free place to live in exchange for... girlfriend-like behavior. And then she up and left him as soon as she got a better offer and then bragged to my friend about it later. I've heard lots of thief stories too. Especially to do with escorts. Another male model was shady and possibly trying to set me up, which didn't occur to me until later. A female model asked me if I'd even been with a Black woman, then asked if would show her "my thing". The shoot was on 4/1, so it was either an attempt at an April fool's joke or somehow the shoot was a turn-on (it was a fully-clothed outdoor shoot). None of these situations dire enough to require ending the shoot of taking other actions. They may form during the shoot and may be realized after the shoot, but I don't believe that they are there before. But that's only because I don't make any claims that I can further anyone's career. Perhaps if I were Stephen Wayda or Arny Freytag, I would have a different perspective to draw from.
