Did it- bought the alien bees and mini...
I have been wanting to buy the alien bees for some time along with the mini vagabond. I also bought the ac9 adapter for pocketwizards since I already had a set of PW. I did ran out of money so an umbrella as modifier will have to do meanwhile. Its the B1600 in the special edition color NavajoTurquoise. Should be here soon- can't wait. I keep looking through the blinds for the brown truck. Jan 17 13 02:48 pm Link Cool. Get a PLM if you like umbrellas, the light of that thing is insane. My personal fav though the ring flash. You'll want a variety of modifiers, but if the Bees last like the WLs do, you should have a few decades to experiment. Jan 17 13 02:58 pm Link The silver PLM in either of the two larger sizes is superb - you can create a well defined and controlled oval of light with it. Also light enough to mount on a boom and put it above your model There are two shots at the end of my port that are lit this way..... next thing I would suggest though - and a superb investment - would be a Mola Demi in white or silver with the white grid..... Have fun Jan 17 13 03:12 pm Link You'll love the VB mini. You should try and get a 64" PLM in soft silver it puts out great light. Jan 17 13 03:43 pm Link in the studio i find 800 is often too much so i got some 400s. but if you want to overpower the sun or shoot at f16. my bees arrived almost immediately. i was excited. i love them. Jan 17 13 05:08 pm Link I've always had great service from Buff, and quick! I just bought the Vagabond Mini myself, and I can tell you, that it is so liberating! The 1600's should do you very well. I use the old WLU and the only two that work at the moment are 1200. Although, when put through the PCB 10x36 strip box, I can turn them down all the way and shoot f1.8 from just a couple two, or three feet away. I'm about to send my two WLU 600's in with my WLU 1800 for repairs. That is, if I can get the money. Umbrellas are great. If I remember correctly, my Avatar was shot over the weekend with the 36" shoot-through. I used it as a shoot-through, and then turned it around and bounced the light at her. I put that poor girl through misery! LOL Jan 17 13 06:21 pm Link Congrats, the 1600 is crazy power. I don't know what your plans are for this thing but you'll certainly be able to light it. I have 2 of them but some days I wish I had stayed with the 800's Jan 17 13 06:24 pm Link Good times ahead for you;) Jan 18 13 09:54 am Link Here are some pictures. I tested out and awesome power can't wait to go to the field to get a real feel for it. I do have a question regarding the mini vagabond clamp. I tried to use it on my lightstand but it did not fit. I use professional size stands so that got be think its probably for smaller stands. Jan 19 13 09:33 am Link Jan 19 13 09:52 am Link Love my B800s, and love my silver PLM. So easy to simulate window light... The wrap is frickin' awesome. Jan 19 13 10:16 am Link the included mini clamps have never done anything useful for me. they're sitting in a box somewhere. buff recently sent out a note saying don't charge them unattended and don't leave them plugged in all the time (not even just the charger). this is the same kind of battery that grounded the 787?
