I remember a time when the preferred body type of a woman was skinny or slim but these days it seems the industry prefers a curvier figure.

Do you agree? If you had to pick one which would it be?

Which industry? Different shapes for different styles.

I can appreciate both!

In general...or answer for acting, modeling or any type of modeling.

slim has to do with weight. curvy is a bodytype. you can perfectly be both, or neither, at the same time.

slim and curvy

slim and less curvy

little less slim and less curvy (except for the boobs, she's very straight up and down)

plussize and curvy

plussize and not very curvy

all of the women above are succesful models (the first 2, though they have different bodytypes, are VS models)

not to mention that curves can be emphasized by pose and styling...

I think it's more about an overall look.

Given the choice, I prefer curvy, and not necessarily real slender.

I have also learned to adopt the philosophy that the best figure in the world is the one in front of my camera at the time.

For hired models, I'll hire curvy over slender any day of the week.   And, usually plus sized over 'normal.'

Curvy definitely accentuates the natural "S" curves women have that so many people adore.  It's nice that diverse tastes are being recognized across multiple industries...it'll be even nicer when all of the back biting and petty labeling that sometimes happens between industry segments is over and every body style is represented in every industry.

You are gorgeous.

And I'm fairly certain the "industry" still prefers slim 9x outta 10, curvy or not

I see an abundance of both of those figure types shot beautifully. Why pick? Women are lovely creatures.

Yup, slim, curvy, slim and curvy, slim or curvy, they are all good !!

If I had to pick one, it would depend entirely on what I was picking one for !!

I remember a time when the preferred body type of a woman was voluptuous.  Women are curvy, slim, round, pear-shaped, sticks, whatever.

de gustibus non est disputandum.

if i was a photographer i'd shoot super skinny models. i think curvy girls are gorge but i think i'm just really attracted to my opposites. it's also why i like blondes and redheads.

Hah. You mean the industry prefers fake tits and a flat stomach to someone who's all real with real curves. They would never go after someone like Marilyn Monroe these days. They'd definitely find something wrong with her and she's extremely beautiful. Now she'd be the best friend that doesn't have a huge role but is there to make the main love interest look better. That's what I get from the industry. At least Victoria Secret models are all natural.

My preference is to curvy but beauty comes in all kinds of packages and make the best of what they have.

The OP's type is at the top of my list.

Curvy....... Love the shape of hips you can see. Look up pictures of Jane Russell or Marilyn Monroe and you see what I mean...... I love curvy hips and a curvy shape.. Wiggle skirts, pencil skirts..

Beautiful and wonderous

The industry would love Marilyn Monroe because her beauty/figure was majestic. As for the fake breasts and flat stomach I think many models have done well for themselves both natural and enhanced and when did a flat stomach become a bad thing?

Considering that plus size IS the new normal... your preference needs to be clearer...

disagree, the high end industry still prefers slimmer llamas, but curvy llamas are much better to look at IMO

Victoria's Secret won't use fake breasted girls because they don't fit right in the bras. And I was stating an opinion about the industry based on what I see. Frankly, I would like to see models with pot bellies and spare tires because it's what's real. Even Ralph Lauren's plus size model can't be identified with. She still looks skinnier than average people.

What industry are you talking about?

Modeling has been one of the few things I've done where my small boobs are actually a good thing.

Skinny girls are real, too. smile

And if you want to change it, it would be better to start a line and pick the models you want to see than to do it by modeling.

Awesome description. Well done. Very on point.

Does anyone else see the vag patch sticking out of miss 'less thin, less curvy except for the boobs'? Of all the things we photoshop these days, they couldn't fix that?

I admit, I'm a sucker for skinny, probably because even when I was stupidly thin I was still curvy. Always want what you can't have, right? But I can't complain. Curves rule.

It's an action shot which is why it isn't.

I did notice that, but I'm sure whoever was there watching her walk didn't wink

It still could have been 'shopped for a still picture. It's pretty tacky. Someone backstage should have noticed as well.

I guess big tits really do stop some brain cells from working.
