That's right. It's gotten to that point. I haven't said anything about it in a while. The asshole still constantly emails me, but one day before yesterday wasn't just the usual pathetic ramblings, it was...disturbing. Disturbing to the point of real worry on my part. He was at my office, last weekend, and dumped some stupid stuff on the porch. But he's not allowed to be there. It violates the protective order. The police came and took a report. Contact by electronic means also violates the order, and that is constant. CONSTANT. Then the email that was so disturbing. He's been arrested three times, and bonds out of jail each time. There's nothing I can do about it other than continue to file reports, etc. I was told to just file a report each time he violates the order, but I would be filing reports every few hours, so I haven't done that. Now, though, it's a different story. They're going to get tired of me, they're going to know me very well. I'm not going to be one of those statistics. I will be there often filing reports. Hopefully, the judge will see what's going on and revoke any bond and just keep him in jail until a trial. So the gun thing... He's been off his rocker since at least the time I left more than a year ago, but that email... I've decided to buy a gun. I checked into the law while I was at the police station, yesterday. I think today I'm going to look at some.

That's a wise decision. It's better to be safe than sorry. What an odd justice system that doesn't throw such wankers in prison. Only leaves you with the option to take care of the matter yourself.

Can he be diagnosed as mentally ill? The protocol for detaining people who are dangerous due to mental illness, is somewhat different than for general ass-hattery, I think.

The correct term is double action revolver. No cocking needed, just pull the trigger vs. single action where the weapon must be cocked before firing. Revolvers also hold fewer rounds vs. the semi-auto weapons. i.e. fewer chances to actually hit something before needing to reload.

I would believe most sold today are DA. True, most semi-auto handguns can carry more rounds. Depends on what size gun will be purchased. However, IMO, for a novice, DA revolvers are less complicated to use than a semi-auto. Plus, revolvers do not jam like a semi-auto can. And if the gun would be needed, more than likely, it will be a close range. Probably needs to buy both a handgun and a shotgun.

Make sure if you actually get a gun that you are mentally prepared to actually him. If I were you I'd probably get my conceal and carry permit. I don't know what the laws are like in your state but in Florida it is pretty easy to get. The worst thing would be to have him take the gun away from you. Have you considered moving and getting a large dog?

If she fired a warning shot not aimed at him she might also go to prison for the next 20 years in Florida, like another woman who tried to scare an abusive ex boyfriend away.

Double barrel 12 gauge. A, you won't miss and B, the sound is so you most likely never have to shoot it.

I help a lot of women(and guys) get set up with their first PDW so here are a few things. If you do not have the confidence that you can take another human life, DO NOT get a gun. Go for some bear spray or a tazer. If you get a gun; buy a practical weapon you can handle. DO NOT do something stupid like buy some massive over sized black death cock. If you get a gun familiarize your self with every thing about it; until you can load it, unload it, break it down and rebuild it blind folded. Treat the gun with respect and as if it is always loaded and ready to fire. If you don't YOU could be the one who gets hurt. Last but not least: DO NOT EVER POINT A GUN AT ANYONE YOU DO NOT PLAN ON KILLING. Unlike what a lot of the pro-gun wankers believe, a gun does not make you tough, badass or make up for their personal short comings and lack of a full sized penis: it is a weapon that is made for killing people. Nothing more nothing less. PSA: This was brought to you buy the Boyscouts of America, the 4H organization and viewers like you.

Wildcat Photography wrote: True, most semi-auto handguns can carry more rounds. Depends on what size gun will be purchased. While you can get some decently small handguns that carry from 15-17 rounds in the clip, the high number of bullets is actually a bad thing. This means that if the shooter panic fires the as most do in a majority of cases of gun self defense that mean that they have the potential to wildly fire more rounds that could end up hitting and innocent bystander. A PRACTICAL ammo cap, is the best. The best part with revolvers is their interchangeable ammo abilities.
Wildcat Photography wrote: However, IMO, for a novice, DA revolvers are less complicated to use than a semi-auto. They are and they are easier to clean and maintain. Plus you have less parts to wear down meaning the over all revolver with lass longer.
Wildcat Photography wrote: Plus, revolvers do not jam like a semi-auto can. Revolvers can jam. Anything that interferes with the rotation of the cylinder can render the gun jammed. Especially with DA revolvers. The pull of the trigger not only cocks the hammer it also cycles the cylinder to put a new round into line with the barrel. By simply holding the cylinder with your hand you can prevent someone from pulling the trigger and firing the gun.(Note) this doesn't work if the hammer is already cocked and there is a live round already in the chamber.
Wildcat Photography wrote: And if the gun would be needed, more than likely, it will be a close range. Exactly. Most gun defense cases happen relatively close, which is why the CCW firing test is done at around 20ft.
Wildcat Photography wrote: Probably needs to buy both a handgun and a shotgun. Handguns for personal defense. Shotgun for home defense. Rifle for hunting. All the assault weapons are not really necessary.

When I own a gun, I'm fully prepared to blow his fucking brains out, if necessary. I'm tired of living with my blinds drawn, and looking over my shoulder, and having to call the police all the time, and reading his pathetic, pussified emails. Yes, he likes dick. I don't know why he won't leave me alone, but he won't. He's fucked up in the head. He needs to just follow through on his threats/promises of suicide and be done, so I wouldn't have to worry about the expense of a gun. Yes, I know how to use a gun. Handgun, shotgun, rifle. I know how to clean one. I know how to store one, load one. And I know how to cap a bitch. As it is, he was arrested after I went to the police, this morning. I got the call a little over thirty minutes ago, while I was on my way home from the gun store.

Right now you are being emotional. You are scared and angry and while emotions like that may help you do it, once they wear off and you come down you are going to have major mental and emotional backlash. You are a woman, no offense, so they will hit you harder. Shooting some one in the heat of the moment is one of the most common types of shooting but it has a pretty serious effect on people. Shooting someone in "cold blood" has less effect on a person and is how you should approach any type of shooting activity. Because it will give you better results You need to calm down, and detach yourself from the activity. The best way to work on a shooting mindset is with target practice. Go to the range, relax and run through the actions of loading aiming and shooting over and over and over until it becomes like a zen state of mind. I have hear several idiots tell people to visualize the target as as the mugger or attacker or rapist. That is the wrong way to do it. You want to fix that state of aiming and shooting a silhouette target in your mind so that IF you have to shoot you visualize your attacker as the paper range target. By being calmer and relaxed your precision and grouping will not suffer as much as it would to emotion making your aim deadlier to the target and safer to others.

Posting these will result in YOU looking like the guilty party premeditating murder in a state were at least once a year there is a case of someone trying to manipulate castle doctrine to pull of legal murder.(see the Zimmerman case) I only posted things to help, you are the one trying to make it something more. Do the RIGHT and LEGAL thing and leave it up the the Authorities, take the proper measures and only resort to self defense if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

I know I'm dumb (according to this guy), but did Arkansas suddenly move to the Atlantic/Gulf coasts? Seriously, Ronin, just be quiet before you look as dumb as you think I am.

Just remember to keep it at home, transporting in your car, or at the range. Learn how it is put together. Do not ever point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot and kill them, even if it's unloaded. Don't ever threaten someone with a gun, that will get you shot with your own gun. Get comfortable with the gun, if you want to use it for self defense, you should not be shooting it for the first time at the moment there's a problem. You should be comfortable with it completely. So go shooting. .22s are good for first time gun owners, there's not a lot of kickback, they aren't and loud. Helps you be 100% comfortable with the weapon, which is important if you want to avoid accidentally hurting yourself.
