Again, learn to read and quit assuming. Another troll, trying to attack me rather than discuss the topic. Trying to pretend I'm outrage over the fucking video that I clearly said...I didn't even care because it's so stupid. READ boy, read the thread and back off the personal bullshit.

Clever marketing strategy... they're getting everyone to view the ad without having to pay one cent in advertising costs to actually air the thing.

Grow some thick skin...those aren't attacks, I'm asking you questions.

Your latest posts seem to show concern only for the black guys and racism against them...not how this producer, who is black, demeans the white woman.

Your concern:

Yeah, the "snitches get stitches" line is disgusting and plays into the "don't snitch" policy while the killings in many communities would end if people weren't so afraid to report crimes.  Not good!

I'm asking you questions, why can't you engage in discussion instead of crying to the MODS that you're getting attacked? (your'e not, but you ARE insulting me calling me a boy) You are the OP of this thread right?  I'm going to reply to you first.

This ad is downright disgusting on all levels.  ALL levels.

Marketing 101: It doesn't matter what they're saying about you, as long as they're talking about you.

And that's the question I asked in the OP. Is it great marketing....even with the video pulled, we are discussing both Tyler and Dew.

Just like in politics, the opponent says something outrages and takes it back but it's in the atmosphere and the press will run with the story.

Having been in the business of testing product ads (and TV shows, movie trailers and political ads), I would guarantee that this ad, if it was close to being aired, was thoroughly tested with various demographic and regional groups. I've seen marketing companies come up with some really goofy stuff... and some of it actually works with the target audiences.

It's hard to imagine that this youtube video would ever be remotely considered as a real advertisement.

Yeah but they're usually careful to protect their brand. I do makeup for commercials and some are just for the internet because many young people have computers but don't watch tv. They watch everything via internet. I wonder how many takes it took to get the damn goat to stand still? lol

Pepsi who owns Mountain Dew is a client of the advertising company (BBDO) who hired Tyler, the Creator to make the commercials.

I worked on set with a dog and by the end of the day, every human hated that damn dog and his trainers. UGH! He was not interested in shooting a commercial that day.

I've seen stupid mock commercials like this on youtube for Sonic Drive-in too. They look like they are made by giggly high school kids.

I don't understand the point. Is this directed at some kind of MTV/Bevis-Butthead youtube subculture? Who is the demographic?

I don't see where it does anything positive for the banding.

Has it been confirmed that Mountain Dew even commissioned this so-called work?

Yes it has been confirmed.

Fascinating.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out between Pepsi, the agency and the guy that did the spot.

Personally,  I've never been a big fan of simply getting people to talk -  that is SO easy to do- but rather,  to get them talking about what you WANT them to.

And often in advertising, it's not a message, it's not even an attitude,  it's a mentality that comes through that the target audience can relate to. (and I'm not necessarily talking about this spot for Dew but thinking back on my surf/skate days)

Trying to get a cat to act for a commercial must be a real chore too I bet.

Tyler doesn't care about racism.

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.2 … the-n-word

the show he does, loiter squad, is just one long series of stereotypes.

He was then asked what he stands for.

"Being rich and trying to have as much fun as I can," he replied.

Since it was created by a black guy can it be racist? Or is he just portraying what he sees as society's stereotypes of black men?

Either way it's misogynistic and in poor taste with an abuser threatening the abused woman.

I can only imagine the outrage if this commercial had been created by a white guy!
