I was randomly wanting to know peoples opinion on the suicide girls. I don't know much about the whole ordeal, think it was a group that exploded a few years ago. Not even sure if new work is being produced. But are suicide girls soft core porn or considered some genre of photography? Is it a mixture of both? So confused...

Some more than soft, most photographers refuse to work with SG because of their restrictive contracts that leave nothing for the photographer.

Some of it's just normal naked girls laying there with tattoos, some of it's "Oh look I have a vigina", and some of it's just plain out weird.

I wouldn't say they are porn stars...just alt girls stripping down and getting dirty

It's more like Alternative Models getting nude. The problem most have, on both sides of the camera, are the restrictive terms they demand.

As for porn stars...I think if someone asked 90% of the Suicide Girls model population to perform an adult scene with a male model, they'd be cleaning up vomit for a month.

No, I think it's still mostly amateurs, and if I remember correctly, girls are paid according to the number of new subscribers they recruit, so you have to not only pose and submit photos, but actively promote the site to make money.

Last time I checked, photographers are not allowed to charge a model for a shoot, if published by the site, will be "paid" by receiving a free membership (no money) and aren't allowed to photograph for any competing site for 3 years. From a photographer's point of view, they're more trouble than they're worth.

It's mainly a place for pretty girls with ink to be seen, in spite of the dubious SG reputation around these parts I don't think there's anything wrong with that.  Their terms make it impossible for the photog or model to make much if anything at all.

I think a model who just wants exposure would be better off having their own Facebook or Tumblr fan page.  The pay is the same and you have control.

Really?  Like some photographers will not work with a model if she's been featured on SG?  Some agencies won't hire them because they have some photos on SG?

Seriously?  The model's phone stops ringing?

There are other sites that feature alt models, in this genre, that dont seem to have the negative reputation that SG does. SG has a VERY restrictive contract they force photographers to sign, they have a very (IMHO) deceptive "pay scheme"...

I dont shoot this genre, so those that do may have better info, but the consensus among photographers here is to avoid them like the plague.

read what wikipedia has to say about them--- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuicideGirls

There are several Suicide Girls here, hopefully they will contribute their experiences...

SG requires that photographers provide them with the copyrights to images. They do mean "copyright", not an image use agreement.

Yeah I would assume the general public of MM based from this small sample shows not alot of people would be thrilled with an SG. I have yet to see one on here yet but I figured they might be

Howdy Ho lol. Oh yes we would just roll in the dough wouldn't even matter how we split it. But honestly, I feel an SG in general or even a recreate would need a bare minimum of at least 5 tats. It's like a secret admission and I fail to enter the club lol sad face sad :p

Dang, and I was already planning how I would spend the profits. I should probably cancel the BMW I just ordered. Poopy face :-(

Actually, some sex shops I've been in certainly have had down under flavor products. Don't ask me how, I wouldn't even want to know. Goes along with other weird products like Coochy creme, the best damn shaving creme you will ever find.

From what I know, Suicide Girls is fairly restrictive with their contract, mainly in that you cannot shoot for other competing sites. I am also under the understanding that it requires a certain level (though maybe fairly) of explicit content. However, that may be misinformation.

In my case, I do not think I would shoot for SG, even if for some crazy reason they would accept me. I like shooting for Zivity a lot more and I enjoy the fact that I maintain my copyrights (for self portraits), the larger diversity (tattoos/alt look not required), and the payment structure. No one site is for everyone, and I am sure there are people who love SG, actually I know there are, I just feel it would not be a good fit for me.

Hey I have actually heard of Zivity! I like the alt look, but yes if it is required it kind of puts me off. A by happen-stance is better. I like your work by the way

Here's another take on SG.

I joined in support for a model friend, she can submit all she wants -- they don't need to accept the images, but SG still owns the images.  My friend adds "self shot images" which become property of SG.  The model doesn't make any money until she is accepted which may be never, but SG has tons of new content.

As I was looking around most models have been inactive for several years and even the ones that are active only have sets that are very tame.  Sometimes even tamer than Zivity.

5 or 6 years ago SG was soft/moderate Girl/Girl porn.  Today boring.  Just as others have stated inked models showing off their ink.  (There is nothing wrong with that, but there are better ways of doing it.)

I would basically say its not worth it unless you are truly ALT and don't want to be a mainstream model.

I'd mention BlueBlood.com and related sites, or point out that AltPorn.net has a pretty complete listing of sites with those sorts of themes. (APN calls the overall genre porn; I do not. What I do is erotica.) But I'm kind of baffled by why a random cute chick, with no obviously apparent alternative attributes and who does not do nudes, is asking about alt nekkid sites? This is oddly the 2nd such post I've noticed today.

Is it me or is there kind of a level of denial in this conversation?

"PORN" is sort of a relative term, so is "ART", so let me see if I can be of assistance.

For some people "porn" might be soft, or hard, or weird.....some people get off on feet, some get off on balloons, others like tattoos, whatever, to each their own.

If you put a stockpile of sexy photos behind a "membership only" gate, and collect payment.  It doesn't matter how technically well done it is, the people paying are not art connoisseurs paying gallery fees to discuss meanings as they taste hors d'oeuvres and sip wine.  Men PAY to have access to a safari of masturbation material that suits their particular taste.

So....if you like masturbating to pretty-faced girls with an edge (tattoos & piercings) then go to Suicide Girls.  If you prefer to masturbate to more normal looking girls with a creative zest that occasionally spread their legs, but "not in poor taste"....try Zivity.  If you prefer to masturbate to girls who may or may not be 18 yet but have the labium of an orchid....then try Met Art.

Porn is porn.....and that's fine, in a way it needs to exist and always has.  But to pretend that money grows on trees for taking pretty photos is a bit naive.   Paid sites exist for a reason.....

If your work is being shown in MoMa, 5 foot print, discussed in art magazines, limited edition lithograph selling for $15,000 to hang in somebody's yacht.  Then....you might be making some commercial art.

If you just want to make ART....then make it.  Art doesn't need money, it just needs to be.  Bring ideas to life, forget money.

Newbies contact me all the time asking me to help them get on there.  I simply decline every time.

I would not touch them with a stolen d*ck.
