Did you know that the Canon 5D Classic or Original isn't supported for tether capture in Lightroom 4.2 and beyond?  4.1 YES, but if you upgrade to 4.4 or others to get rid of the bugs, they "break" the tether function for that camera.  It won't work in 5 either.

The work around is to have both Lightroom 3 AND 4 on your computer, so you capture with 3 and then process with 4 or 5 or what have you.

Less and less I am liking Adobe.

It's 9 yr. old camera. In 20 years you can post that it's not supported in Lightroom 25.1 Windows 8 doesn't support DOS games also.

It wasn't supported for a while now.
Age of the camera is irrelevant in this case - there are a lot of 5D shooters out there (myself included).
It's not up to Adobe to decide when and how we should upgrade our cameras.

I agree. I think it's not up to Microsoft decide if they want to cancel DOS games support. Sometimes I want to play original Warcraft and it doesn't work. And monitors should support 8 bit 256 colors video full screen.  5d software not compatible with Lightroom 5. Same as nice care not compatible with cheap gas. You want cheap gas, get older car.

By this analogy 5DC RAW files should not be supported in Lightroom, neither should 20D, 1DS MkII, etc. For that matter any support for the cameras as devices should not be available in any later revisions of OSes.
Adobe didn't remove tethering for 5DC because of the support, but because their heads are far up their arses.

By all means they can do what they please with their software (and they are doing it already).
It's just not a very nice practice.

Canon's latest camera control SDK dropped support for the 5D classic, too. They remove "older" cameras to add support for the new ones.

They don't really like their customers much so is it surprising they cut a nearly 10 year old camera...

what OS are you using? from win 7 onward cameras in the model and year of the 5d aren't even supported for teathering with EOS utility, my rebel xt is usesless with teathering with my win 7 laptop canon simply decided to stop, so if canon already did it before, a third party like adobe making it work for so long is pretty good IMO

I am somewhat surprised the tethering part cut yet all RAW functions still work. From the above post, even EOS Utility cut support for tethered too?

They must have tethered support somewhere like C1 or something.

Using old DSLRs are bound to have support issues. We didn't have that with Leica shoots, yet trying to find parts for 10 year old CF lenses was.

let me jump on my Windows 3.1 computer quick to test it for ya.... big_smile    but seriously, what's the point of upgrading if you know that something is not going to be supported by the system?  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You see the 5d and other models of the same year release need drivers so the OS can see them, the last drivers canon put out where for XP or vista (if I'm not mistaken on the vista part) so its not that they don't work, its that canon refused to keep making drivers for those cameras, when you plug an old camera to windows7 it looks like a card but that's it... The newer cameras (xti and abover in other models) don't need drivers to get recognized by the os

Similar for Nikon, with their own software as well. My 'eventing computer' I use along with a D200 & WT-3. If I update software in order to tether my D800, including CCP2, then I lose D200 & D70 tether support. Maybe it is the old USB1 standards that are the problem ?

I get how this is a big deal as 5d has no live view and has smomewhat inferior screen.

But at the same time what would you gain by upgrading? I use Lightroom 3.
