Those memes are hilarious. How long do you have to plan?

I dread planning my wedding, which is ironic because I really do want to get married someday. But I'm more interested in the marriage part than the ceremony.

Shit, some days Im like "lets just go stamp some papers at the court house, and then go honeymoon" but our families would kill us. And somedays I actually do want a wedding.

Ive got 11 months, but we're getting married in PA and I have to do all the planning from Toronto which is annoying. My venue manager lady is the captain of the space cadets, and theyve got all these rules that I think are really stupid.

I'm like....extra massochistic. We've decided since we couldn't have a single wedding with all the various themes we like, that on our anniversary every year (until we get tired of it, run out of ideas, or go broke) we're having another wedding in whatever theme we decide on.

So far we're at

-Camping wedding
-70s roller disco
-Midway/carnival, I want to get officiated by a balloon animal making clown, and we'll hang a just married banner on our bumper cars
-Vegas theme (but not in Vegas), he wants to get officiated by a transvestite Elvis impersonator, I want to wear a big white showgirl outfit complete with giant feather sparkly hat
-there's an ice hotel in Quebec, I want to ride in on a sleigh pulled by a team of huskies...or have a penguin as my ring bearer, or both. That one we'll have to do on our halfiversary though since its only in existence in the winter
- I wanted an 80s prom wedding...but he was alive and in highschool in the 80s and he doesn't seem excited to relive it...I'm still working on that one

There's like ... 5 more I can't remember right now

The original idea was to have a series of "increasingly ridiculous weddings". The idea of doing it on the anniversary was to save our sanity and bank book. I think we can keep it up for a while.. Which means we will have an increasingly ridiculous marriage.

I'm ok with that.

I've put aside money for our children's therapy already...

We gave up trying to put every member of both sides of the family in consideration, and decided to just elope so they'd all be mad at *us* and not at each other.

So it was just us, the preacher, the piper, the photographer, the photographer's assistant (his wife) and our wedding coordinator at St. Margaret's Chapel, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland.

It was *epic*. And we loved it. We mailed the announcement cards from the Royal Mail box at the foot of the hill on our way out of the castle.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/173/404958815_d70c683e7a_z.jpg

We overnighted at The Witchery By the Castle in the "Library" room, then went off on a two-week driving tour of Scotland - Edinburgh to Dumfries, Dumfries to Glasgow, day-trip via train from Glasgow to Stirling, Glasgow to Oban, Oban to Inverness, Inverness to St. Andrews (had to change plans there because Aberdeen was having ice storms...), St. Andrews to Edinburgh.

We stayed more than one night in a couple of spots, like Oban - we got to watch the Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes' Day) fireworks over the harbor at Oban.

It was lovely.

If we were like...catholic or something I would totally do that, their ceremonies are ridiculous.

Ours is going to be over before everyone sits the fuck down and shuts up.

I am a Dudist priest... this summer I was the officiant in a wedding. (Church of the latter day dude)

The bride was melting because of the 93 degree heat and the groom could not get their 3year old daugther to let go... so I cut it short and married them in less than five minutes...

she had it on st lucia..invited whomever to come...

Lord knows(and I'm probably too far gone to even meet anyone to get married to)if I ever get married...there are so many fractures in my family on my mom's side they can't probably be in the same room together...I would try to recomend the same thing

I'm (supposedly) catholic too.. and just about the only thing I'd like to sit through less than a mass before a wedding is a greek orthodox mass before a wedding.

I want a marrying stick.

Someone stands between the two of us.. whacks us both on the head with the stick and pronounces "you're married!"

We then take the stick home and hang it over the mantle.

...

I'm not getting alot of traction with this idea, sadly.

Pish - easy - brides can ask for any freaking thing

Wherever you are registered - add "Mantle" to the mixers and waffle irons and china sets.

Then wack each other with the mantle, to show the giver how much you liked the wedding gift.
