For all the traveling models out there...

What's your favorite city to go to for work and why?

I probably made the most, in the shortest amount of time, in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, Syracuse NY is now tied with SLC for most lucrative locations for me.

I do best, and am most productive, working in rural areas and suburban environments. I don't generally do as well in urban setting, have more cancellations, and find it much more stressful and difficult to get around.

Non-major cities, rural areas and suburbs have always worked out better for me. Other models tour cities. I tour the 'burbs around the cities

You have a lot of success in the areas that don't normally have good models to shoot.  smile

Inside the big cities, there's more competition for jobs, and it also costs more of my earnings to work there, so ultimately, I take home less for a variety of reasons when I work in a large city.

Camping while traveling saves a tremendous amount of money when you can't get hosting, and you can't exactly camp in NYC. Well, I guess you could, but it would be under a bridge, next to some drunk guy who talks to himself.

San Francisco is probably my best consistent city. I don't do amazing, but it's consistent, even when everyone cancels on me at the last minute and I have to pick up all new gigs.

My best single trips that I probably couldn't replicate: buffalo and Sacramento.

My favorite places to go regardless of money: NYC, San Fran, Chicago, Philly.

Probably the Baltimore area (including the 20-50 mile radius around it). Up there I have less flakes and less cancellations than anywhere else I've visited. The west is full of flakes, and Dallas...that's just a no-go if I actually want to MAKE money.

Lots of good trade in Dallas, but I only broke even there.

Love the people and the city though. It's one place I could see myself living, or right outside of Dallas anyway.

Eh Dallas is the only city where I experienced first-hand racism lol. It was laughable though, someone I wanted to work with at the time called me a monkey and n****r and told me to go back where I came from. It's also the first city where I had 3 photographers (with good reps and ports) cancel on me last minute. One never even showed up. Dallas is part of the reason I have a cancellation fee policy now.

It's funny because I use to go to Dallas nearly every weekend when I was younger because we have family down there

I had a full weeks worth of work cancel on me the morning I got on my plane to Texas. Almost nothing in the world could make me go back there.

Good pockets of people exist across the country, I go back to the bay area the most though.

Eta: the why? Combination of good hosts, people to work with, a few places I like to go back and visit, quieter and less busy than NYC, daiso, cheap food, riding the crazy sounding Bart train, blah blah blah...

sad  That's no good, I'll be in Dallas/Austin next month.  I really hope everyone doesn't cancel on me.

I think SanFrancisco and Vancouver BC are probably my favorite places to shoot.  Good photographers with good follow-through on both paid and TF, plus I really enjoy both of those cities.  Lots of good food and pretty stuff to see.

I liked San Francisco a lot. It's probably my favorite "big city" in the US. I felt at home there, and like I did not stand out. I was normal for San Francisco, and that's saying something. However, I didn't make much of a profit there, and while I wanted to go back as a tourist, it's not somewhere I would go back to work.
