Anyone tape their webcams up?
Buddy got a new work computer that has touch-screen, some built-in camera at the top of the screen, etc. He had to call tech support on an issue with the internal Blu-ray DVD drive. While on the phone to tech support, the tech guy activated my friend's screen camera remotely and showed my friend's face on the screen. Then he said "Watch this!" and he put flames coming out of my friend's hair. The tech guy was laughing and suddenly my friend's screen went back to the Windows Metro tile screen and the phone line disconnected. He thinks a supervisor caught the tech guy on the phone playing around and pulled the plug. So he placed some electrical tape over the screen's camera as he doesn't like the idea of someone spying on him from their end unknown to him. I've heard of the issue of Samsung's TV internal camera being activated remotely by hackers. http://www.iclarified.com/32509/samsung … tin-camera Guess I need to tape up my tablet's and cell cameras... Jun 18 14 06:31 am Link Not my laptop but I taped my Xbox 1 camera. Jun 18 14 06:36 am Link A friend sent me a webcam years ago, it's still in the box. I have no use for them. Jun 18 14 07:21 am Link I am a photographer, and I hate having my picture taken. I am also a big privacy advocate. I think there are too many cameras already. Jun 18 14 07:22 am Link I disabled mine in the device manager. But after this it came on once for no reason at all (the warning LED lit up) so after that it was the black tape. Jun 18 14 08:44 am Link I use a small square of painters tape. Jun 18 14 08:48 am Link A couple years ago, I graduated from Western Governors University. It is an online school. Instead of having to go to a brick and mortar test facility to take tests, the school sent a webcam and I took my tests while being monitored remotely. As convenient as that was, I always thought I should be sending them a bill for appearing on camera for them. Jun 18 14 09:00 am Link Hackers can have a lovely view of my skylight Jun 18 14 10:18 am Link Nah, if they want to watch me then go right ahead. They'll just see me picking my nose Jun 18 14 10:30 am Link I don't currently own a computer with a webcam, but if I ever do, I will figure out the print size/focus ratio, and post a little pic in front of it, so if anyone ever spies on me, they will be treated to a photo of me taking a dump. If that doesn't start legislation to lessen invasion of privacy, nothing will. Jun 18 14 10:36 am Link I have a piece of paper covering it. Jun 18 14 10:55 am Link There is a yellow smiley face sticker over mine. LOL Jun 18 14 11:58 am Link I cover mine up with the tape I keep next to my tinfoil hat collection Jun 18 14 12:03 pm Link I folded a small piece of tinfoil that covers the camera. It stays in place unless I decide to move it Jun 18 14 12:51 pm Link Looknsee Photography wrote: I'm with you! I'm using a fairly new desktop but without a cam ... I also have been using what I call my "dumb phone" for years. It's an old ... old flip phone. I don't like the idea of having my picture taken ... and it's not because I'm a wanted felon or something, I just don't like pictures of myself. Been doing it for years Jun 18 14 05:35 pm Link I have an external webcam for my desktop that I keep pointed at the wall and a built in webcam on my laptop that I keep taped. Jun 18 14 11:27 pm Link I consider the likelihood of someone hacking in to activate my camera watching me at approximately .01%. Nevertheless, I have a strip of tape covering the camea, and I take it off for Skype calls. Because I figure that that few-seconds strip of tape takes it from .01% to zero. The people who are handed this great privacy invading technology don't have any morals or manners. I'd tape my stuff up, but then they win. Eventually, you have to come to grips with moving on with your own life. People spy or exploit others because that's what they think gives them power over their victims. It's sad like that. That's why there are so many losers who worship and stalk celebrities. Jun 19 14 01:00 pm Link I don't tape any of my webcams. If hackers want to see me, all they will see is a wall or the keyboard or the cover of my tablets. If I happen to be using one of my various camera equipped electronics then they will most likely see my naked body. And good luck trying to blackmail me with those pictures. I don't give a fuck if naked pictures of me got out. Jun 19 14 08:20 pm Link Danielle Reid wrote: As the saying goes ....
