Has anyone seen the new Transformers movie? Is it any good? Jun 30 14 02:09 pm Link Lovely Day Media wrote: I saw it last night. Jun 30 14 02:15 pm Link I felt it was waaaaay too long. If you really enjoyed Transformers 3, then you'll probably really enjoy this one more. My complaint about 3 was that it was too long. This movie didn't help it. I feel weird saying the, but there was TOO much action. Not enough story to care. Oh man you gotta rent that one...and oh yeah...there were some Autobots and great special effects in there somewhere too I think.... Jun 30 14 06:04 pm Link Naughty Ties wrote: Oh... no... I did see that one! Jun 30 14 06:27 pm Link udor wrote: Indeed the one with Rosie was the one featuring the Chicago battle. And trust me, no one is ever going to blame you for paying an inordinate amount of attention to those legs. Jun 30 14 08:25 pm Link Passing. And I get free movies. Jun 30 14 09:57 pm Link I loved it, although I am a huge fan of the 1st 3 movies. It was a bit long, however I'm getting used to a lot of these action movies checking in at 2:30 & 2:45 on length. More action than story, some parts really started to drag out. New cast was a refreshing change along with exotics in the vehicle dept. I was seriously tempted to just leave the theater and read about the ending on Wikipedia... I am not kidding! When I first heard the running time I immediately thought of The Dark Knight Rises, thinking I might as well get comfy for almost 3hrs. Jul 01 14 07:49 am Link I'm a huge Transformers fan, ever since I saved up all my little quarters to buy Frenzy and Lazerbeak (and then begged my parents to buy me Soundwave) when I was a kid and collected about half of the toys. Watching Optimus Prime die in the original cartoon movie was probably the first time I cried in a movie (I was 9 years old at the time). I saw it in theatres several times and can, to this day, quote most of the movie. That said, I enjoyed T4 but had a few gripes. Granted, I expect nothing more than action and explosions. After all: it is a live action movie about giant robots from outer space who transform into cars and shoot big guns. One cannot hold such a premise to the story-telling standard of, say, The Godfather II. The A-list actors were all solid (no Heath L'Joker caliber performance, but solid), there was tons of action and it was visually beautiful. The fucking robots look real. Real badasses. My biggest gripe is that with 165 minutes, shit still felt a little... thin in many places. Not enough Dinobots. Not NEARLY enough Dinobots. With all the robot fighting, they could have used 10 minutes of that 165 to give them more fighting screen time and you would not have felt like you missed out on anything. Even 5 minutes and 5 minutes devoted to how the Dinobots are connected to the rest of the Transformers (I won't say anything else because of spoilers in the details). A little less time with Cade Yeager and the farm and a little more time with the government bad guys would have been interesting. In the Bourne trilogy, for instance, you spend a fair amount of time with the government bad guys seeing how they work and think. That could have been a nice touch (while still being a light touch). It also could have helped balance out a lot of the action. For 165, I'd expect to feel like there was the right mix, which isn't to say it should be an even mix. Sometimes less is more/enough. The LotR movies were long as fuck, too, but you felt like you got what you were getting in the right amounts. I expected this one to be long because they've all gotten progressively longer but it felt long because of how it was mixed.
