Interesting that a search on this only turned up 4 vague references.
I must have screwed up my search.

And yes, I know it happens, but just wondering how much.

More likely it is on the photographers side. And since I am a hobbyist I try to do it for fun, but it does not always work out that way.

While I do this for a living, as a full time job, if it wasn't fun, and if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it, because almost any other job would probably be easier.

Yes. I'm still in college studying for my BA, I occasionally take on paid work, but for now my main focus is on creative development... something that one can ill afford on paid assignments.

So hell yes I still shoot for fun!

95% of the time it is fun to just exercise the little creative part of my brain.   The other 5% is paid work which is normally not fun. big_smile  I freelance sometimes when I feel like it and usually regret it. LOL I don't like shooting events all that much but that is usually what I do get paid work for. Not crazy about it but a few extra bucks here and there help.

Even back when I was filling up pages with photos every day, I shot for fun. And I've always learned more shooting for fun than for profit. Why? When shooting for profit, I can't really take the risks I do when shooting for fun. You may learn from your mistakes, but clients will soon learn not to trust you to deliver if you're making mistakes on those for-profit shoots.

I shoot for fun.

I've been paid for a few photo gigs, and it wasn't fun. I don't do that anymore.

Retired, now instead of worrying about the bills, i like to play with it, no preasure.

I've never used a digital camera, shot film since I was 12. It's all new again although my more serious art is still done on film.

Tff is trade for fun.

Modeling "for fun" would be a very expensive hobby, unless you live right in a major city, with reliable access to excellent, cheap public transportation, and never really go outside the city for shoots. Also, your city would have to be very full of many, many people to shoot with, and a diverse model/photography community.

Life is far too short not to have fun!

I choose to do what I do because I love doing it.

if you didn't shoot for fun now and then, what would be the point....I do weddings and family and seniors....it is work...let off the pressure and enjoy the art...that is what makes an enjoyable session...Mo

It depends on what I"m shooting.

I always want to have fun though, even when I am shooting to earn a living.  Shoots that are primarily for fun and for art, absolutely for F U N.

If only there was some way to have fun editing and retouching!!

I've made $900 since 2007.

The rest has been all for fun.

I stopped taking pictures for money years ago now.  It's only a hobby.  I do pay for naked women though.

I have a job I (almost always) enjoy.  I just enjoy pictures more, and not having to appease other people keeps it fun.

I only shoot trade. I say that I shoot for fun, but in reality I spend 20 times as much time in frustration trying to set up shoots, and the fun is mostly a mirage. I'm wondering what my next hobby will be and how it will be rewarding.
    Or I could just turn waiting for responses into my new hobby. At least it would be predictable. {comments reflecting bitterness deleted}

I shoot for fun ALL the time ~ sometimes they kick up a sweet tip, but mostly, the typical person wants as much as they can get for free.    With the economy in the toilet like it is, i'd never shoot if i just wated for paying clients.  It's FUN, i'm not that concerned about the pay ~ m'

I photograph black widow spiders for fun. For some reason orb web weavers are my favorite. I am fond of jumping spiders, but they jump around a lot.

I pretty much only model for fun (and for portfolio/resume building for my other fun passion- acting). I have been paid a few times, but that was more of a really cool bonus.

Since this is most likely being intercepted by the NSA and passed along to the IRS, I only shoot for fun, ever. I've never made one thin dime from any of it.

I photograph because I can't not photograph. I guess it's not so much a hobby as an obsession. I've been doing it since age 4. I've never seriously tried to make money from photography because I don't like people telling me what to do.

I shoot purely for the fun of it. It's my means of escape from my real job and enables me to do what I want creatively without anyone else telling me what to do. The only client I have to please is myself!

Yes, yes, yes, that is correct, me too....
I inadvisedly claimed otherwise in a previous post.
But having thoroughly checked over my records, I was indeed mistaken.
