Does anybody still shoot or model for fun?
Interesting that a search on this only turned up 4 vague references. I must have screwed up my search. And yes, I know it happens, but just wondering how much. More likely it is on the photographers side. And since I am a hobbyist I try to do it for fun, but it does not always work out that way. Jul 10 14 07:57 pm Link While I do this for a living, as a full time job, if it wasn't fun, and if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it, because almost any other job would probably be easier. Jul 10 14 08:04 pm Link no Jul 10 14 08:05 pm Link Yes. I'm still in college studying for my BA, I occasionally take on paid work, but for now my main focus is on creative development... something that one can ill afford on paid assignments. So hell yes I still shoot for fun! Jul 10 14 08:06 pm Link NEIN! Ve all are seriously serious about vat ve do! It is no joking matter! Jul 10 14 08:14 pm Link 95% of the time it is fun to just exercise the little creative part of my brain. The other 5% is paid work which is normally not fun. I freelance sometimes when I feel like it and usually regret it. LOL I don't like shooting events all that much but that is usually what I do get paid work for. Not crazy about it but a few extra bucks here and there help. Jul 10 14 08:15 pm Link Even back when I was filling up pages with photos every day, I shot for fun. And I've always learned more shooting for fun than for profit. Why? When shooting for profit, I can't really take the risks I do when shooting for fun. You may learn from your mistakes, but clients will soon learn not to trust you to deliver if you're making mistakes on those for-profit shoots. Jul 10 14 08:19 pm Link I shoot for fun. I've been paid for a few photo gigs, and it wasn't fun. I don't do that anymore. Jul 10 14 08:28 pm Link Retired, now instead of worrying about the bills, i like to play with it, no preasure. I've never used a digital camera, shot film since I was 12. It's all new again although my more serious art is still done on film. Tff is trade for fun. Jul 10 14 08:38 pm Link Modeling "for fun" would be a very expensive hobby, unless you live right in a major city, with reliable access to excellent, cheap public transportation, and never really go outside the city for shoots. Also, your city would have to be very full of many, many people to shoot with, and a diverse model/photography community. Jul 10 14 08:46 pm Link Life is far too short not to have fun! I choose to do what I do because I love doing it. Jul 10 14 08:47 pm Link The F-Stop wrote: Like. Jul 10 14 08:48 pm Link if you didn't shoot for fun now and then, what would be the point....I do weddings and family and seniors....it is work...let off the pressure and enjoy the art...that is what makes an enjoyable session...Mo Jul 10 14 08:48 pm Link Do what makes your heart sing! For me that is photography. Jul 10 14 08:52 pm Link On MM? Mostly for fun. Jul 10 14 08:57 pm Link It depends on what I"m shooting. I always want to have fun though, even when I am shooting to earn a living. Shoots that are primarily for fun and for art, absolutely for F U N. If only there was some way to have fun editing and retouching!! Jul 10 14 09:00 pm Link I've made $900 since 2007. The rest has been all for fun. Jul 10 14 09:08 pm Link It's fun when I pay my rent, if that counts Jul 10 14 09:26 pm Link I stopped taking pictures for money years ago now. It's only a hobby. I do pay for naked women though. Jul 10 14 09:42 pm Link I only shoot trade. I say that I shoot for fun, but in reality I spend 20 times as much time in frustration trying to set up shoots, and the fun is mostly a mirage. I'm wondering what my next hobby will be and how it will be rewarding. Or I could just turn waiting for responses into my new hobby. At least it would be predictable. {comments reflecting bitterness deleted} Jul 10 14 09:43 pm Link I shoot for fun ALL the time ~ sometimes they kick up a sweet tip, but mostly, the typical person wants as much as they can get for free. With the economy in the toilet like it is, i'd never shoot if i just wated for paying clients. It's FUN, i'm not that concerned about the pay ~ m' Jul 10 14 09:43 pm Link I photograph black widow spiders for fun. For some reason orb web weavers are my favorite. I am fond of jumping spiders, but they jump around a lot. Jul 10 14 09:51 pm Link I pretty much only model for fun (and for portfolio/resume building for my other fun passion- acting). I have been paid a few times, but that was more of a really cool bonus. If its not fun dont do it ! Jul 10 14 10:35 pm Link Yep ! Jul 10 14 10:39 pm Link I photograph because I can't not photograph. I guess it's not so much a hobby as an obsession. I've been doing it since age 4. I've never seriously tried to make money from photography because I don't like people telling me what to do. It's my means of escape from my real job and enables me to do what I want creatively without anyone else telling me what to do. The only client I have to please is myself! Jul 10 14 10:55 pm Link These responses are making me really happy that I have turned down every offer for paid photography work so far. Jul 10 14 10:55 pm Link oh yes, i do! though lately it seems more photographers i've worked with, now want to charge instead of do tf*. makes sense, but funny how it started happening around the same time.. Jul 10 14 10:56 pm Link Yup, just for fun! Jul 10 14 10:57 pm Link Alan Ballinger wrote: Yes, yes, yes, that is correct, me too.... Jul 10 14 11:00 pm Link Fun and money aren't mutually exclusive.
