So I think I'm going to start to offer USB thumb drives rather than DVDs and just wondering if anyone has ordered branded ones before and where they have got them from?

I'm thinking in the $5-10 range would be about what I'd want to spend, with $10 being the upper limit. Really only looking for about 20 of these or so as I'm not sure how often I'd use them yet.

I like the SanDisk cruzer blade ones. Small, sleek, good speeds, stylish, hole for lanyard and good name/reputation. Amazon.

Yeah they need to be ones I can get with my logo and branding.

These seem really fun - https://www.customusb.com/mini-spin-usb-wallet-card/

https://www.customusb.com/spin-flash-drive/  <- more than likely going with those and my GF said her company used them and they held up pretty well.

I have not purchased any but received one from my school through Pexagon and have been very happy with it.

Have you though about having a clear printed decal that can be applied to a quality drive ?  Obviously the problem is them using a cheap drive that will fail.  Even if you ask them the manufacture of the drive they're using, it's probably some no name that no one has ever heard of. Maybe they'll agree to use a higher quality drive but you will have to decide on a lower capacity to keep it within your price point.

I will have to ask my gf how long their drives lasted. Although, it wouldn't be for everyday use and my cheap microcenter SD cards have been going strong for over 5 years now.

All it really needs to do is look cool and work a few times.

I like the Amex card one they did.  It would be interesting if they could print one to look like a negative (at least I would consider that option as I tend to shoot a fair bit of film) or some other custom idea.  My promos that are being mailed out look (on the back) as if it were a movie ticket.  Another looks as if it were an old pulp magazine.  Maybe something memorable that evokes what you do?

I like the cards too, and that would be neat. However I don't like the idea of having a large card sticking out of a usb port. That is just asking to be snapped off, or at least in my mind it is.

This, as it stands now, would be a way to send clients files and not so much a promotional piece or a internal promotional piece, so although I want it to be neat and cute, it dosent have to be that neat or cute.

If this was being sent to ad agencies or a pomotional piece to prospective clients then I would have a different view and would really look into those cards.

Unless I'm over thinking the snapping off part?

I have but only in qualities over 100 (I have also ordered over 1k for clients when I was in marketing).

I still have some, they can be just as good as retail ones.

P.S. could make good promos as wel for potential clients, in a nice promo box etc.

There are not a lot of people that make the chips for these things.  Personally, I wouldn't be uncomfortable buying them for the purpose you are talking about.  If you load the files and then do a quick verify, I doubt you will have problems getting files to your clients.

I give Flashdrives at the end of the shoot with the jpegs on it. That is a good idea to use them as promo. I just buy them at Costco now.
I got some from a company named Ipromo once that looked like a racecar. I wonder if they make them that look like a camera or a lens? That would be sort of cool.

If I remember right they were fairly cheap.

I'm sure you could get the company to send you one as a sample, for free (any one they have on hand) just to test it out.

My thought is that, if you did something custom with a bit of flair, you could also use it as a promo piece.  Promo's don't tend to last too long unless you really catch someone's attention, so that tends to be my first consideration.

Your main business is headshots for aspiring models and agencies, correct?  What about a card that looks like a mirror at a makeup station.  An actual mirror surface (if they can do that with mylar or something) with white dots around the edge to look like lights?  The bottom edge could have the very tops of some makeup brushes and product containers.

I'm guessing if this is how you're delivering photos, it's just mean to deliver them.  Customer will likely offload them onto a computer so they can use them and put the drive away into a file cabinet like they would a CD/DVD.  Advantage is better long term storage life and probably a faster read.  And they are writable.

I think it's a great idea.

Well and better branding than just sending over a dvd.

I wouldn't use this often as I would have to dip my toes in sales tax, but for the few times clients ask I could offer it and make some extra money from the deal.

Prices seem a bit high, and given their main product line (printing) is bottom of the barrel I would consider these suspect quality

I am not sure you are going to get a good deal on 10 or if you can even order that small an amount.

Try these guys if you want to see what pricing is on larger amounts:

http://www.4imprint.com/tag/3195/USB-Flash-Drives

It looks like they have a sale on some items so you can order as few as 25. You normally have to order a few hundred of something to make it worthwhile. The set up charge for the artwork for both sides is already $30. They will send you a sample if you request it.

I ordered some souvenir LED lights with custom logos last year for gifting at Burning Man when I ran out of time to make my normal gift. They were a few duds that did now work but considering the per unit cost it was acceptable. I ordered a few hundred though.

Check these folks out they look like they might be in your price range at the 2GB size for the Swivel Flash Drives. http://photoflashdrive.com/

I ordered this custom Wooden Flash Drive & Rustic Wood Box and it was done well. I don't think you will have any problems with these folks.

Oh GOD NO! VistaPrint's prices are not that great but the quality of everything the sell is the lowest of the low. A friend of mine just ordered some business cards from them a few weeks ago and even though I tried to talk him out of it and go with a better printer he didn't listen. The day his cards arrived they went right in the trash. The quality was sub-crap.

Google -->  custom hot stamping foil         (and variations thereof)
includes      http://www.hotstampsupply.com/dies.html

Lots of choice on what can be custom imprinted - lots of people do it

As for memory sticks -- whatever style you can think of

Slightly more and you can give away a player with slideshow (about $14 with memory card) that still works as a USB drive with added cable
