Oh boy you just insulted a genre in art, namely figurative nudes. I dare say nudes appear in museums in significantly higher number than the perverts who shoot models like Maxium babes.

Stop your un founded generalizations.

I've directly helped 3 nude models get started on MM.  One removed her profile, one is completely inactive but still has a profile, and the third doesn't model but does log in once in a while.  Modeling isn't for everyone.

While creepy photographers are continually cited...one of these models got a PM with a full frontal view of a nude male model wanting to know if she wanted to  "collaborate?"

This might be a new trend at MM...or just out in the open more.  I've seen model profiles specifically telling nude male models they aren't interested in collaborating with male models.  This whole collaboration thing is a scam anyway, considering it isn't the male model that usually puts together the shoot for the photographer or client.

(I did know one local model, however, that found a willing photographer to help him with his scam...where he had the photographer contact the models he wanted to meet and go out with.)

My point here is that it is not always the photographer behaving badly.  Male models also get in the act.

Not at all new.... in fact, pretty cliche the whole time I've been on the site.

Yes, very typical behavior. I have been shooting models for ten years and am friends with numerous models. They all go through this, nothing new, they either report it or ignore it.

I guess the 1 percent are from pervs who want to shoot bad cheesy glamour pics... smile

Hey, the ones I know that left did so because of being pressured to shoot cheesy bikini and lingerie images TFP.

People come here expecting photographers to come to them and get frustrated when their inbox isn't being bombared with requests to shoot, and they leave. It's just not how the business works in any industry. People won't be coming to you until you have a good foot in the industry with an impressive portfolio.

The new members I noticed dropping out had to do with forum attacks before MM cracked down on the cliques (gangs). They just didn't want any part of it and realized it was a mistake joining.

Might be unrelated, but generally (from what I hear of those I know who quit) they either get flooded with requests that are scams or just plain bizarre/unprofessional. The other complaint I've heard is that there's just too much nudity.

Curious stuff.   Women get inappropriate offers all the time at bars and clubs.    Yet how many stop going out because of that?   If some goof makes a rude or suggestive offer CAM and block them.   Its pretty easy.   When I joined Facebook a few idiots thought my Avatar of a female model was me.   I received offers for dates and the hey baby stuff.   While I do have decent legs I let them know I am a guy and the men apologized with two saying they still wanted to meet me.   Didn't happen for you jokers.   People like to blame other people for what they decide to do.

I left MM because of all the creeps.   Okay... Facebook has a ton of them and you're still their.   Goodness its just words on a screen.   The person isn't in your face like at a club which as I said models still go to despite being sometimes harassed at.   If a stranger said something you didn't like to you in public what would you do?
My guess is either ignore them or say fuc* off.   Isn't that even easier to do on-line?

It all depends on how important MM is to them. If I was getting a lot of crap on here I'd leave because it's not that important to me. If it was a little I'd stay because its not useless to me either.

To new models, if they're getting a lot of crap before they've gotten any value what's the point in sticking around? Especially if they are faring better on other sites.

Yknow, there's ample Veteran models on the site.....

Just thought I'd point that pink elephant out since I don't really care why new models are leaving..

There's quite a few of us, who travel and shoot often. A lot of ladies who model full time. A lot of girls trying to get to that full time point who need good trade.

Just pointing the rest of us out.

some are just going to FB or CL because they get more paying offers, others, like stated just get tired of the creeps and they have told me about them, sure the trend on every media site will shift and change

There are many great things about Model Mayhem, but one of the least appealing aspects is the occasional discussion thread, like this one. where people directly or indirectly call everybody who does not work in the same genres as they do creeps, perverts, amateurs, GWCs, etc. It is so terribly narrow-minded and immature, and totally out of place in a huge and very diverse community devoted to creative endeavours.

I have been on Model Mayhem for four years, and have mostly specialzed in artsy nudes here. I have taken many workshops filled with fellow MM members and attended numerous group photography events across the country, so I have met and extensively interacted with at least a couple of hundred photographers, most on MM, who are applying themselves to photographing nudes. And I have to say that as far as I can see, almost all of them are just regular people with the same zeal for photography as those pursuing other type of photography. They are generally more concerned about making good images, and about equipment and techniques, than ogling nude models. Of course not all are very talented or artistic, no more than is the norm for other type of photography. And there is no doubt in my mind that there is an occasional real GWC in the bunch -  guys who are not even really trying their best at the photography, but are in this just for the female contact (but I'm not sure that is limited at all to nude photography). But to those who think most photographers who pursue nude photography are perverts or suspect people, I say this is total misconception that has no basis in reality. Yes,  models are sometimes harassed by creeps, but these are probably the same relatively few creeps bothering a huge number of different models. I wish MM had a more efficient way to weed out such inappropriate members.

Equally unfair and unrealistic assertions are sometimes seen in MM discussion threads implying that models who do nudes are somehow less professional than those who hang clothes on their bodies for photoshoots. I have worked with about 80 nude models so far, and nearly without exception they have conducted themselves in a highly professional manner. I am very selective and only work with well-paid and experienced models, so maybe that has biased my perception. But I wish certain fellow MM members would quit unfounded negative generalizations about both the huge number of photographers and countless models pursuing together work in nude photography.

What would be nice to see?... how about moderators contacting 'short term member' models and asking they WHY they left after only a brief membership.  If the responses lead to the models being contacted by some re-occurring 'creepers and pervs' of the site... maybe taking some action against such A-holes (possibly even banishment) might resort in purging the site of some 'undesireables'... wink
