You really are a piece of shit. anything that you touch, you manage to fuck it up. Hotmail has been fine until you put your hands on it. Now you block my email and I have no way to get into it. If any of you are using hotmail, i strongly recommend you to transfer all your contacts and get yahoo or gmail. what a FUCKED-UP company that is.

They said someone has hacked my account. Told me to fill out a bunch of forms to recover/reset my account. Then they came back and told me that info I provided was not good enough to verify I am the rightful account owner. Now they told me to sign up for a new account.

I believe that happens with all e-mail providers.

Someone had their twitter account stolen because twitter didn't do enough to ensure of the proper owner.  That was a big story a few years ago that some guy wrote.

I have an alternate email with the hotmail account. And it still did not satisfy their drone customer service.

Hotmail still exists? hmm

Given how easily they and Yahoo can get hacked in recent years, why?

Gmail for the win.

Then there is  "the missing window bug" or invisible windows or whatever you call it.

What went wrong with Microsoft's August updates?
http://www.zdnet.com/what-went-wrong-wi … 000033089/

"It's been a long time since Microsoft had a Patch Tuesday this bad. By Friday they were conceding problems with several updates. Not only did they withdraw four updates, but they recommended that users uninstall one of them.

Yesterday they reissued that update, but they also announced that it had its own set of new bugs, one of which can make windows inaccessible or invisible. Three of the four withdrawn updates are still withdrawn and two of those are also subject to the missing window bug. Two other updates, previously uninvolved with the August updates, also have this missing window bug."

There is always the Linux option. More and more viable as China and Russia are switching over.

I'm going to shake it up even more ... AOL still exists!  tongue

https://www.digital5k.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/AOHellSplashScreen.jpg

I can't stand any "new" innovations on Microsoft Windows, as I was happy with my XP, then I got forced into Windows 7 ... and it's crashed on me.  Not thrilled about it.  I've been a stick in the mud ... I like things to remain the same ... well except for dial up!  I got online with the AOL CD back in 2000 and have had [email protected] ever since.  I also have bellaimages in Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and many other email services I can't remember.  AOL is and has been my email through thick and thin as unprofessional as it may seem.  My Internet service is provided by Comcast.  I'm happy with them.

Any and all can SUCK at times!  wink

Four years ago I bought a MacBook and I hated it. Windows 7 was so much more elegant and classy. No cheesy jumping and exploding OS X icons. I was disgusted so I gave the MacBook to my kids and bought a proper Windows 7 Sony laptop. Then Windows 8 came along and I bought a cheap netbook with Windows 8 to try it out. It was unusable. I hated the fucking menus popping up just because I happen to let the cursor touch the edge of the screen. I don't want touchscreen on a computer that has a keyboard and a mouse either. I don't want to touch my computer screen any more than I want to touch my glasses and getting finger grease on them you idiots.

I got a MacBook again and I love it (since Windows 8 sucks so bad in comparison). I do expect OS X to get rid of the cheezeness of the time machine and other stupid animations that pop up when you delete stuff or install a new applications. Just make it more like the IOS. Loose the 1998 drop shadows.

Er, Hotmail has been owned by Microsoft since 1997, which in technological terms might as well mean in the time before time.

Exactly. I have never understood using all those different browsers and e-mail services when AOL has never had a problem as far as I know. Been using it exclusively since 2000...never been hacked...the e-mail system is wonderful (no stupid boxes to check for deletions, etc.)...it does every thing at the same speed the other computers my son and wife have so I never understood what the big deal is to use all that new stuff.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.  smile

Hotmail isn't a big deal, but IE users (especially those who refuse to update) are actively making the Internet worse.  For everyone.

agreed. ie is the worst piece of software anyone can use. anyone who still uses it (hell, even a decade ago) and who doesn't want to see it for what it is, is either stupid, or indignant...most likely a combination of both.

hotmails not terrible but I dont see it having the same staying power as gmail, theres no reason for him to have to migrate his contacts and inbox AGAIN in a couple years when hotmail gives it up. And I know how to work gmail, I can actually answer the "why isn't this working" questions without having to open it up and play with it to try to figure out what he could have possibly done wrong…from a different country…

I have nothing but problems with gmail.  The spam detection is too aggressive and there's no way to configure it.  A lot of my important email goes straight to the spam folder.  Maybe I can rename it to 'Inbox.'  I only set it up as a backup account anyway because my primary account has fairly limited storage space.

I have a couple of secondary Hotmail accounts that have worked pretty good.  Fortunately I'm grandfathered into those so I can use a regular email client and don't have to use the browser based application, unless I'm on someone else's computer.

Nope, did that. It alone would not work. They also asked me a whole bunch of other questions, then a drone reply came back told me that their drone human being could not id me. And they suggest me to open up a new account.

This is what they first sent me after I did the code and answered the questions:

----------------------------
We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account [email protected]. Unfortunately, our automated system has determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership.  Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously, and our commitment to protecting your personal information requires that we take the utmost care in ensuring that you are the account owner.

We have taken the additional step of blocking your account [email protected] until we can verify you as the account owner. This will prevent any further use of the account, and protect you from any possible malicious activity.

Please submit a new account verification form

At this point, your best option is to submit a new form with as much accurate information as you can gather. The more information you can include in the form, the better the chance you’ll have of regaining access to your account. We’ve included a few tips below to help you fill out the form as completely as possible.

> Submit a new form

Helpful tips for filling out another form:

Answer as many questions as you can.
Use the information you provided when you created the account, or last updated it.
Submit the form from a computer you frequently use.
You will be asked to list recently used email addresses and the subject lines from recent emails. Ask for help from family members, friends, or business contacts to confirm their email addresses and tell you the subject lines of the last three emails they sent you.
Make sure to use the correct domain for your account, such as hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com. Keep in mind that your email address may be country specific. For example, if you created your account in Sweden, your domain would be “hotmail.co.se” rather than “hotmail.com”.

After I answered more questions and submit another form, then they sent me their final conclusion:
---------------------------
Your security is important to us
Recently, we received several requests to gain access to [email protected]. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership using the information that was provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information, and our careful account recovery process is intended to protect you from any possible malicious activity.

Now what?
Because there have been multiple unsuccessful recovery attempts for this account, we recommend at this point that you create a new account. It's quick and easy, and we have tools to help you import contacts, connect with Facebook, and even receive messages from multiple email accounts.

     > Open a new account

With a new account, you’ll be able to use the following services across all of your devices:

Best-in-class email with unlimited storage at lightning speed and serious security.
Stay connected with friends and family, see social updates and chat with Facebook friends, and make ordinary moments memorable with video calls.
Free online storage for thousands of docs and photos, shared your way.
Don’t get locked out again
Once you create a new account, we highly recommend you update your password reset information with a phone number or alternate email address. This will make it easier for you to gain access to your account in the future if you are locked out again.

     > Open a new account

Thank you

About 92% of my spam comes from g-mail accounts.

It is not Microsoft's fault that there are people with ill intent out there who hack into other people's accounts or that there are people who cannot remember their full security information in order to unlock things.

I do not have a problem with the Microsoft exchange e-mail that is part of my web hosting.

I do not have a problem with the e-mail service that is linked to my broadband provider.

Things that are free will often have some sort of problem that can be overcome by actually spending some money on it.

Hotmail was running qmail on FreeBSD, and then M$ bought it and started converting to M$ Exchange servers. It immediately went down hill. Exchange crashed a lot, and is easily cracked. It was embarrassing to M$, but they could not have their mail running nicely on FreeBSD. All the people with half a brain fled the company.

Microsoft buys Hotmail circa 1998

Microsoft - Free BSD

They were actually forced to go back to FreeBSD to get Hotmail to stop crashing lol . I don't know what the state is today. No one with any technical savvy would use Hotmail.
