October 17, 2007 8:03am This is a lovely photo with a lot of visual sophistication. I like the soft light and warm skin tone to begin with. The shallow depth of field keeps the sharp focus on your face, but this photo is about a lot more than what your face looks like. I think it's about desire. The viewer desires you, but that interest is not returned -- your attention is elsewhere. I also think this image alludes to the split between mind and body. The voluptuous curves of your breasts are draped with frilly, diaphanous material that seems to be floating upward in the frame, on the verge of uncovering your right nipple. It's interesting that the line connecting your left cheek to the shadow of your chin and the line created by the top of your lingerie impose strong diagonals that make this photo more dynamic. The other thing that impresses me about the image is the way it divides into thirds -- a graphic arts "rule" that helps make images stronger -- from top to bottom. The three sections are face, body, and void. It's that visual division, multiplied by the split between in-focus and out-of-focus, that emphasizes the division between what it is you're daydreaming about and physical desire (mind/body). Deep in the space of this image, we see your hand, rising like Mount Fuji, poised, perhaps to caress, symbolizing tactile sensation. I like the way this photo suggests more than it illustrates. It's not a forceful image, it's suggestive and seductive.
