About Me

I'm Russ. I shoot mostly on location, with or without lights. I'd like to move from what you see here, which has mostly been done on short notice with a crew of three (me, model, assistant) to a more planned out conceptual style in concert with a make-up artist and a stylist.

One of the things I want to accomplish here is to put together a team, or teams of creative people to do concept shoots for FUN. Not so much for money or for portfolio. Though if we get a team that is creative, motivated, reliable, and skilled then money and a great port will necessarily follow, because that's where money and a great portfolio come from.

"Concept shoot" is probably not the right term for what I want to do. What I am looking to do could be better described as "an independent film shot in one frame".  Films are shot by teams, not by cinemetographers. The team shares in the creation process. And the end result is often way more complex than anything typically shot by a still photographer. I want to recreate that in one frame.

As much as possible, I would like to use the same people over and over again. I believe that the better we know each other the better will be the end product. In this team the models will be actors playing a role. They'll play characters who have names and personalities, maybe even a few lines.

We've got:
male lead.
Male supporting role
Female lead

Still looking for:
Female supporting role
MUA
Wardrobe
Hair
Set designer (set coordinator really)

I'd like to add the following to my portfolio:

Something comical.

Something familiar yet disturbing.

Something from a fairy tale or two, but with a modern twist.

Something mind-numbingly boring; so boring that the viewer won't be able to look away; so boring that it will be seared forever into their mind and just recalling the photo will deaden their senses. This is harder than it sounds.

Some tasteful nudes, meaning implied nudity or full nudity where you can't actually see anything. I'd like to leave something for the imagination.

A few 1950's style Pin-Ups a la Elvgren.

The disillusioned super-hero(ine).

If you have any ideas I'm totally open to suggestion.  If you want to help implement one of my ideas then I'd love to hear from you.
