My name is James. I've been doing freelance photography for just under 2 years now, mainly operating out of a small studio space local to me. I'm also keen on traveling to pursue my photographic goals.

I am hoping to join Model Mayhem to connect with a wide range of like minded photographers and models in order to develop my abilities further, and take my photography to the next level. Although some of my work has been used in some local publications, i'm hoping to be able to take this much further and use what i learn here to enable me to shoot for some significant magazines. I would also like to further increase my portfolio and set up a comprehensive online gallery.

I largely specialise in experimental portraiture, focusing primarily on black and white work. I am greatly influenced by film noir and German expressionism from the early 20th century. I like to experiment with contrast, overexposure, shadow, and unorthodox composition and cropping. Recently i have also been trying to develop an ability to harness often undesirable effects in portraiture in a positive fashion, for example, motion blur.

I am also interested in sequential and narrative photography.

Although i like to experiment with the medium, i would also like to use the resources on this site to increase my grasp of fundamentals, and give my work a broader scope.

I would like to hear from both photographers and models who would be interested in collaborating on projects of any sort.
