I developed my interest in photography as a means of promoting my artwork and leather designs. I run a studio in Denver's Santa Fe Arts district where I make a wide variety of leather gear, including elaborate hand-painted leather masks. As I learned along the way, the better the photo, the greater the chance of getting attention from the public and the media. Eventually, the photos I was taking of my designs began to generate as much interest as the designs themselves. I recently finished writing a novel that brings to life the characters who inspired my leather mask designs. I am now working to develop a series of photographs that bring the themes of the novel to life with living models wearing the masks and outfits I make. My goal is to develop a fairly complex series of photographs that can be used to create a graphic novel, or content to accompany the text on e-readers and tablet computers. The photographs will eventually be used in development of my website and promotion of the novel.
The setting for my book is the vampire cults of Denver in the not too distant future. Everything will be shot by candle-light and using experimental lighting techniques that I have been developing for years. I describe the novel as an erotic supernatural thriller, and it was written to provide a host of opportunities for showing off my masks and leather designs. In addition to the photographs I will be using to promote my novel, I will be developing photographs that use my designs independently. ALL MODELS MUST BE WARNED: I use experimental techniques and lighting, sometimes made from pop cans and duct-tape. I use odd cameras...some people have even called my cameras "toys". All of the pictures on my profile were made with these "toy" cameras. If you are going to have a bad time because my camera does not cost a zillion dollars and my lighting is not the fanciest equipment you have ever seen, there are a million other guys who can give you the same-old, same-old photo everyone has seen a billion times before. I do things that are different. I explore. That is where the magic lies. Verified Credits (0)Worked with Mike Romoth Designs? Share your experience and become verified! Add Credits
