About Me

My work serves as a psychological outlet by documenting my perspective. For years I have kept a journal, documenting my life, and now I have found that I document my life and thoughts through the use of photography. Just like writing I find photography is a therapeutic tool that visually represents an idea. My process of working is very constructed and controlled, usually with a strong design element. Although photography is typically seen as a subtractive art I tend to work additively in a painterly way; starting with a blank canvas and then constructing my images. This is due primarily to my past studies in the arts. I have always participated in various arts; drawing, painting, crafts, and graphic design. My work is highly experimental in a self exploratory way. I am attracted to the surreal and ambiguity of images and I try to portray this in my work. I like mystery- if the whole story isn’t there it gives the viewer and even myself more to contemplate. Art is a great form of questioning and in my work I hope to promote questions. What is considered socially acceptable behavior? And what kind of person would create these images and why? Making social commentary on the general attitudes of people in society is a particular interest of mine. Taking the chance to be vulnerable within my own work and highlighting the contradiction between what is socially acceptable processes of the image maker and what is considered an attractive image keeps me intrigued and highly involved within my own work.In the future as a career I would love to pursue fashion and commercial photography. In that realm there is lot of freedom which can be utilized as well as constructive image making that can be accomplished through their various processes. Though I will always be generating more “fine art” work at the same time for my personal psychological fulfillment.
