About Me

I've been doing a lot of photography over the last few years but most of it has been macro, landscapes, etc. I'm really looking to get into portraits and lifestyle photography and I've read the theory so now I need the practice – everyone has to start somewhere. However I do have a lot of experience of photography in other areas, I am creative and imaginative and I learn very quickly.

I am looking to develop a style of my own but to do that I need to start with the basics, to understand light and poses and how to get the best out of people. My two areas of interest are to a) try and capture the essence of who the person really is - which is far more difficult than it sounds - and b) from there, to experiment with something imaginative and out of the ordinary. I am looking to try and capture people at their best and develop from there, and by that I don't mean “that's great love – now pop your top off” - I'm not THAT guy. I have plenty of my own ideas but I am quite happy to work with someone who is able to contribute to the creative process or has some ideas of their own. At the moment I'm willing to try anything. At this stage patience is key – it's easy to have ideas but much more difficult to execute them so it's important to appreciate that not everything will work out as you'd imagined. The important thing is to relax and be comfortable and try things out. Not everything will work. That's okay. As I am still looking for my own style I tend to shoot a lot and see what works; you can't know what works if you don't experiment and I need to build up experience so I can progress.

I do have a Flickr site which showcases some of what I have done. Most of what I have done so far is macro but there's also plenty of landscapes, sunsets, portraits, and a wedding I recently shot.
