Capturing the zeitgeist of the downtown club and street scenes of the 1970's and 80's and continuing today with a concentration on the trend setting art community of Bushwick, Brooklyn, Frank's "High Heels" photography creates metaphorical portraits of women via their shoes. The energetic and frenetic pace of clubs and sidewalks are distilled into frozen moments, offering the viewer only a segment of the body; the beautiful and graphic curve of the ankle and foot and the elongation of the leg created by the threatening and intoxication pedestal of the high heel. The shape of the foot and details of the shoe, clothing and location act as a surrogate for the whole woman and provide just enough information to imagine the personality and attitude she is projecting. A bright flash often highlights the bold colors, fashion and patterns of the moment, recording the performance of female identity as it plays out on the streets of New York City.
