About Me

I am an art student finishing my BFA with a concentration in painting and an affinity for portraiture. Currently I am working on my thesis.
I wish to create, as my influences as often changing and I like to experiment with different techniques. Content possibilities include portraiture of various types (animals, human, and other non-human), narrative, and subtle commentary on social issues which interest me. As of now I am very interested in representation of women and minorities in art and other media such as people of colour, LGBTQ and gender-variant persons, larger bodied people, disabled people, and so on. I would like to represent such people in non-stereotypical and empowering ways in a world where they are otherwise under-represented, misrepresented, or over sexualized/exoticized.

I would like to fight institutionalized oppression and invisibility of these groups in whichever way I can, and art is my best form of expression. At Model Mayhem I am hopeful I can find such people interested in giving me the privilege and opportunity to share their stories and portrait.
I ask that before contacting me about possibly sitting for a portrait, you consider my goals for this project and whether or not you are already represented in art and society as a whole, and how: privilege comes into play here, as does intersectionality. By no means do I wish to partake in oppression olympics-- I just want to give others a chance to be represented. White, heterosexual, cisgender males will typically fall at the bottom of my subject list though there are certainly other factors such a person may have that deserves attention, such as disability, other alternative lifestyles, etc.

If you wish to help me in my project, you must be able to fulfill the commitment this will take. You must be able to travel to my studio and sit for the painting a few hours a week (preferred minimum of 6) at approximately the same time each day of painting (unless using studio light). This will require scheduling on both our parts. You must be willing to have your photo taken for me to work with between sessions and when you are not available to sit. I would also love any statement about yourself you would be willing to share in an artist's statement about the piece. This project is about you, after all... though I may decide the piece speaks for itself. Right now I do not require payment for materials, though I would gladly appreciate any help I can get, being poor college students and having canvases easily reach $20 each.
For sitting and helping me, you may have your portrait at the end of the school year, come May 2013 and will receive an invitation to student art shows that will feature it until giving the portrait to you. I maintain all intellectual copyright to the work and reserve the right to display it however I wish to, such as in online portfolios and in student shows during the current school year.

All this in mind, if you wish to talk/help me out, feel free to send me a message!
