About Me

I am documentary photographer/photojournalist, with experience covering the immigration issues in Athens Greece under the context of the economic crisis.

About my principle photography concerns:
In another life I was a research scientist working in biology. Now as a photographer, the migration of human populations and the development of new communities within currently existing ones is of huge interest to me, and my biological research work has influenced the structural framework that I employ to develop the photographic project exhibited here. The only difference is where I once used a microscope, I now use a camera. The agenda is identical: To understand population and community development/interactions, and the impact of environmental change on populations.

Why I am here:
Recently I have decided to experiment with art photography, possibly for ideas that are connected to my professional concerns described above. And for that I need to recruit models. I have never photographed models before, hence I do not have any examples to show here. I do portraits regularly, but within a true documentary tradition. The photographic art projects I have in mind are to be executed within the style of the documentary genre; meaning they will be photographed in B&W and will be presented in a gritty style. Make up artists will be employed to the minimum and staging/set up will be largely limited. At all times, this work will involve available light and will not use traditional photographic lighting methods.

Other Details

In January 2011 I founded, with five other photographers, The Dublin Street Photographers Group. This is a cooperative that will strive to define the city of Dublin through street photography.
