My name is Shanel Smith and I have always been fascinated by photographs. When she I a little girl I’d spend countless hours playing with my mother’s Polaroid cameras. I finally embraced my passion for photography at the renowned LaGuardia High School of Music & Art in Manhattan, New York. I began my high school career as a painter. However, after countless classes of training in drawing, technique and painting; I discovered that I am better equipped to channel my creativity into "drawing with light" by using photography.
I am old school. My passion is film. I love to shoot with 35mm film and develop it myself in the darkroom as well as enlarging my photographs in a darkroom. This is becoming a lost art due to the development of technology and dslr cameras. I have finally decided to conform and shoot digital.nI photograph birthday parties, weddings, night clubs and an array of other events. I truly enjoy creating outdoor portraits with the use of natural light.
I’m joining Model Mayhem so that I can expand my network. It has been about 8 years that I’ve been shooting and I have decided that in the next 5 years I would like to be able to do photography full time. Model Mayhem will give me access to amazing models who are also aspiring to take over the business like myself and we can create beautiful imagery together.
