Personal

My name is Ethan, I am currently living in the Netherlands : Groningen and Amsterdam but have lived and shot photographs and video all over the world. The last 2 years I have been shooting a lot less and not commercially but am picking up the camera again as I start to feel that it is time to get creative again.

The last 7 years I have lived and worked in Bangkok - Thailand. Next to shooting photographs and video I also paint (large abstracts) and own a company in Marketing with a full network in Asia, Europe and the US. A participation in a Graphic and Industrial Design company completes the business part of my Life.

I speak Dutch, German, English, French, Russian and some Thai and Italian ..so communication should not be a problem....


Photography and Video / Film

In Photography and Video / Film I have shot a wide range of subjects and categories in the last 20 years but the work that been received very well and is generally gone before it has even been finished are portraits: nude and non-nude which are very raw and uncut with very little enhancements and Photoshop and almost always in black and white or off tones.
I have nothing against editing and filters but it does not work for my style of shooting.

The same goes for the video/film I shoot. It is raw and unapologetic and 'in your face'. Always trying to make the subject matter as a personal statement ...


Materials / Equipment

I use several good quality cameras to shoot with, but no amount of pixels can compare with the eye of a good photographer. When it comes down to capturing the right moment it is that ‘je ne sais pas’ feeling that makes the perfect click not the camera itself.
I have made fantastic magazine worthy photographs with a Nikon D40 but when I borrowed a Hasselblad I shot nothing decent: bad day and timing. It’s the ability of the photographer that creates great photographs not the amount of money spend on pixels and equipment …
