My name is John.

I'm a photographer. I always have a camera and I love to take pictures of people. I try to find the moments between moments where people reveal themselves. I shoot on the street whenever I can, I prefer to walk places. I love Bruce Davidson and Helmut Newton.

I work primarily in 35mm black and white and color negative film, occasionally 120 and 4x5. I have been shooting a year and in that time have learned a huge amount transitioning from digital only to processing and printing my own negatives. I am late to the party as usual, but doing everything I can to catch up. I've been shooting friends and such until now. I would like to find more experienced people to work with. Also, ideally I'd like to meet someone qualified and interested in doing a long term composite portrait. The qualifications are being really really cool.

I can provide digital scans of any images in exchange for time as well as digital prints of color work and likely silver gelatin enlargements of any black and white. Hybrid film workflow is the best and I prefer it, but I have access to a private darkroom as well.

I gravitate toward dark aesthetics and low light. I am currently experimenting with extreme low light/low contrast situations. I prefer unique looking models. Organic subcultures > hipsters. Punks, goths, garage heads, EDM, queers, trans, beautiful freaks of all kinds: Let me come to your home and let me take your picture.

I'm not very interested in fashion photography, selling things with my work is not an aspiration. This is also not a hobby. I am becoming a light wizard, this is what I'm doing with my life.
