I am classically trained and go into every production with a “Plan” and “Vision” of what I want to “Capture”.
The advent of Digital allows us to shoot, and look at, large numbers of images very quickly. The time and expense of shooting with a “Polaroid Back”, to view the lighting setup, and then switching to a “Film Back” are long gone. Shooting digitally, tethered to a computer, is a dream come true for professional photographers. However, shooting digital does tend to make us all lazy. We tend to over shoot and spend an inordinate amount of time letting our “Model” create the image with movement and/or an untold number of canned “Poses”. A photographer is a “réalisateur” (From the French motion picture director’ title). An image tells a story that guides and evokes emotion. It’s important for a photographer to not only know “How” to evoke different emotions from within an image but, needs also to understand the consequences evoking such emotions brings, and then ultimately excepting the responsibility from its impact on society. I want my images to help make the world a better place for all of us.
As a dear friend of mine once said, “The only difference between a photograph and a snapshot is the attention to detail”. I pay great attention to not only the technical, and artistic, detail I put into my imagery but, also the detail of understanding the social relevance it has on others. I look forward to meeting other professionals on MM that share my "Vision" in creating inspiring works of art.
