About Me

Hey! I'm originally an actor and filmmaker and I'm also interested in exploring the realm of photography. My background as a filmmaker gives me a strong advantage as a photographer. With film, you're capturing an active story frame by frame. With photography, you're locking a piece of that story within just one frame. It gives the viewer a chance to slow down, deeply study the text behind the story and use their imagination to fill in the blanks. It's like solving a puzzle. My goal is to create images and portraits that are complex, poetic and surreal. I want to incite a curiosity within the viewer and question their perception of reality. I'm strongly interested in telling dark, dramatic stories and I draw inspiration from the thriller and suspense genres. I'm inspired by filmmakers such as Alfred Hitchcock, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch and Mayan Deren.

Elements of my photography include:

- Shooting high-contrast black and white imagery
- Using symbols and motifs such as smoke, mirrors, doors, and windows
- Using surrealism and experimental imagery to depict the subconscious mind. Maya Deren's experimental film, Meshes Of The Afternoon, is a huge inspiration for me.
- Using light, or the absence of light, to tell a story.
- Capturing a character's essence through their eyes.

To me, every photo shoot is a film shoot. When I work with a model, I work with a character in a story. I like to discuss adjustments in terms of character development - through core objectives (wants, needs, goals, and obstacles.)
I strongly believe in the power of democracy when collaborating - I'm not here to dictate your choices or tell you what is right or wrong. I'm here to guide you along so you can find the strongest choice in your work. It's about creating a free flow of ideas, then harnessing the power behind the best possible idea and bringing it to life.

For me it's not about getting the right shot. It's about telling a story one frame at a time.
