Ty grew up in the 1980s on a steady diet of SciFi movies and TV shows. He remembers making it a goal to one day help create the worlds he was seeing. After moving to LA in 2005 to start his career as a visualization artist on Spiderman 3 (directed by Sam Raimi), Ty found himself exactly where he wanted to be.  He jokes that if anyone makes fun of his love of SciFI/Fantasy, he just “picks up his action figures and leaves the room.” 

Ty’s early career found him collaborating on films such as Avatar and Star Trek Beyond.  When on Avatar, Ty spent 2 years on set with James Cameron to help pioneer the virtual camera process.  After assisting with blowing up the starship Enterprise, Ty took some time in action-oriented animation, such as “How to Train your Dragon I & II.”  Ty then made the leap back to live action, with continued specialization in SciFi.  Ty’s varied resume speaks to his ability to quickly adapt the latest tools and technology and to his versatility in film making.

More recently, Ty has had the opportunity to work with Director Denis Villanueve as the Visualization Supervisor on both Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two.  Using all his previous knowledge, Ty was able to incorporate the advances in real-time tools, such as intertial motion capture and Unreal Engine to create visualization for the DUNE franchise.

Ty recognizes the importance of visualization in the planning and development of a film.  As he states, “I love playing with other dreamers in the sandbox created by visualization. It is where all the creative departments converge and shots from a film first come to life.”
