About Me

Artist Biography

For nearly two decades I’ve been shooting with Leica cameras.  I find it the perfect tool for my shooting style.  I enjoy studying behavior and lifestyle of both friends and strangers.  The small and unobtrusive size of the Leica allow me to enter this personal world and produce moody, expressive images with an emotional edge that is at times beyond description. I like to cut to the true nature of the subject, getting below the surface of the obvious, looking deeper to reveal power or weakness.  The male form, a subject that I commonly explore, has proven an excellent venue for this emotionally-charged style that render my subjects in a most honest and vulnerable way.

I often work with mixing alternate processes, toning and diffusion to help heighten the textural feel of my work. Sometimes, this results in giving the photographs a vintage quality.

Recently, I have been working with a process using lith chemistry with gelatin silver paper resulting in an absolutely unique print.  Because of the unpredictability of the process, for every print that is successful, many are lost.  To add to the unique textural quality, encaustics are selectively applied to the final image.
