Christopher Anc is a man of mystery, even though his photographs are easily recognized by readers of the Nowy Dziennik, Polish Daily newspaper published in New York. Nobody knows what Christopher does for living, and nobody can ask him, since he rarely picks-up his cellphone. He is busy in the evenings, and at nights. In the evenings, this man of paradox goes to church, were he sings in a choir. Later into the night, he takes his bag packed with photographic equipment and enters abandoned apartments and lofts in Manhattan. That is when and where he shoots his photos, and these are recognized and coveted here and also by Internet users in Poland. Most of all, Christopher cherishes female beauty, and the girls in his photographs seemingly appreciate his affection, the sparks in their eyes serve as proof. Those portraits, or nudes, often black-and-white, or sepia-tinted, could be called the studies of artistic restrain. Where Christopher shows his sense of humor, it is in Nowy Dziennik’s Sunday supplement, called WEEKend. His cover designs, with live models, modeling dogs, and an assortment of odd objects, indicates that Polish Americans are able to see the world and themselves, with a pinch of irony. – Jan Latus
