L'Rai Arthur-Mensah established the Essence of Style to provide her eye for fashion to those in the entertainment and artistic world.

L'Rai was born in the cultured and eclectic city of Washington D.C.
Though she began her life's journey in D.C. she was raised in various cities across the country. Her diverse upbringing in a Ghanian and Afro-American household caused her to have a greater awareness and love for all things beautiful. In a household where image and the way in which one carries themselves was held to a high priority she learned at a young age how to piece garments together so that one would look their best. Learning skills from her grandmother, a seamstress, she was taught to pay attention to detail and the way in which clothing was assembled. As she grew her infatuation with hip-hop and the arts influenced her style. She relates to the passion of many artists and musicians in the hip-hop and underground world. L'Rai has found a way to combine her love for music, art, fashion, and expression of one's self by establishing the Essence of Style.

Welcome to the Essence of Style!!

The Essence of Style was established in April 2007 in pursuit of my passion. I wanted the opportunity to share my love and eye for fashion with others. The Essence of Style has been a collaboration of my love for creativity, art, music, and fashion. While pursuing, I have been able to help others express their passions and sense of style, which has been my greatest accomplishment.

*October 2008*: The Essence of Style and Phyre-Arts will co-coordinate a HIV/AIDS awareness Fashion Show in the Month of October. Join us as we raise awareness and funds regarding the pressing HIV/AIDS epidemic within our country. The fashion show will showcase up and coming designers as well as featured dance selections. If you have ever been to a Phyre-Arts or an Essence of Style event you know this event will NOT be one to miss.
Theme: Dreams in Black in White and a Vivid Imagination

*September 2008*: In The Essence of Style Upcoming Events we will be co-coordinating an Obama Reception and Fashion Show with Young and Powerful for Obama and The Talented Tenth Society. The event's purpose is to bring together the young and powerful constituency within our community. The event will Inspire, Motivate, and Unify our community to take part in this historic political campaign. The reception will feature various visual artists, and a fashion show showcasing various Obama wear in support of the Obama-Biden Campaign.
