Thanks for visiting my profile.

Fifteen-plus years of professional photography wasn’t enough to get it out of my system, so after a few decades I decided to do it again in 2011.

“One man's fantasy is another man's job.” – Richard Avedon

My first job in photography was a paid internship at a metro daily newspaper, the summer before I started high school, at age 15. I started shooting fashion ads for a division of Neiman Marcus; a group of menswear stores, owned by actor James Garner, and Harold’s Stores, my freshman year in college.

I started out in newspaper photography and did mostly news and sports photography, along with some ad, magazine and portfolio development work back in the Darkroom Ages before taking a job that I couldn’t refuse, in which I hired and supervised photographers, but had little time behind the camera.

I’m doing portfolio development again. My rates are reasonable (which isn’t necessarily a synonym for cheap). Different models have different career paths and different portfolio needs. I’ll be happy to analyze the model’s port, discuss the model’s goals and help establish a direction and a general portfolio development strategy.

I like to plan a shoot in advance with the model and other team members so everyone knows what we’re shooting, where, and in what order, and everybody knows what to expect and what’s expected.

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to shoot more photos that are built around concepts, tell stories, create a mood, evoke emotion and/or rise to the level of art and fewer that just say, "See the nice dress (or model)? Isn't it (or she) pretty?"

As I continue to build and round out my own portfolio (again), I will do limited and selective TF*/trade work as time permits, as long as it will benefit the portfolios of all parties. I believe all parties should benefit equally from trade shoots, and all parties should get the types of images they want and need for their portfolios.

My goal is to produce 1-2 true portfolio-quality images for each wardrobe/hairstyle/background combination, not to see how many unedited files I can cram on a CD. You really don’t want more than one image of the same look in your portfolio anyway, unless they’re very different – do you?

I’d rather be shooting than post-processing, and I’d rather spend my time getting the absolute most out of the best images than post-processing second and third bests and trying to salvage the mediocre ones.

I don’t give out unretouched images. No exceptions. And I don’t allow others to retouch my images, with the occasional exception of a professional retoucher working under my direction.

If you're interested in a shoot, please PM me. For some reason, I'm not receiving email notifications for most PM's, comments and tags anymore - and those that I do receive are usually 2-4 days late.

The above list is incomplete and several months out of date. People are listed in order of first shoot date (earliest at the top). I stopped adding to the list in the hope of finding a lost calendar, which I never found. It is so far out of date that reconstructing and updating it would require a major time commitment.
