About Me

I still have negatives from my childhood. I work in ink, sculpt a tad, make primitive prints--I certainly didn't pick creativity, it came and got me and I do it because I can't not do it. If I didn't give it away and pursued a living at it I might be successful. To actually produce it is just so someone else can see it and the price for that is compromise. Oh well. This costs me more than I can make selling a few--

I shoot from the hip and miss a lot, I use old equipment and barely pay attention--sort of the Marcel Duchamp of film. Focus, contrast, correct exposure--all negotiable. Not negotiable are composition, content and presentation. Digital images are held to very strict Digital Darkroom technique: nothing is done that can't be done with film in the darkroom. I've been blessed with the eye to pull good shots out of mediocre raw info.

Models are a tool, just as landscape, still life, journalism. I might mix them up and try anything on the fly. A squirt gun is an invaluable tool--forced reaction, y' know. When I do need a model most of the time I'll stop them on the street, and about 10% of the time the lens cap actually comes off. 5% of the time there is screaming. Fashion and glamor don't interest me in the least, but portraits do. Nothing is more boring than a perfect specimen as a subject, but wipe off that makeup and let's muss your hair, maybe get it wet. When we're ready to go blaring music and idle chatter about very joyful or very sad events get you there sometimes...I want to wing it, and causing things to happen (if we've worked together) can bring that golden frame.

I'm easy to work with, insist on fun and pushing rules aside interests me, as does what it is that makes you tick--collaboration is so much better than direction. If we work we'll find common ground. If you knit, I want to shoot that. Same if you're a drunk or a soccer mom. If we get along after a short session or two we'll make you a go-go dancer or do door-to-door portraits: whoever answers gets shot with you...there are endless possibilities!

I WILL NOT: Shoot weddings, children, events-for-hire unless interested, pornography, or random felonies. Well, it depends on the felony....

1978-present: Documentation of live music and performers, street portraits, three hour setups and 20 minute shoots, however you've always wanted to be seen, I'll do the footwork.
2003-present: Constructions and set-ups, opportunistic journalism, a return to classicism and emulation of old-master surrealism. Surveillance.
2008-future: Suicide Girl submissions, non-exhibition portraits, website improvements in website images for Adult Service Providers, diligent studio work lasting many hours of lighting, costume and in-camera experiments. A strange impulse to do architecture...

Happy to shoot from around Fort Collins to Denver the 25th or maybe 26th & 26th - 29th can commute to Loveland or Idaho springs area & maybe some areas East. The 29th I’ll already be heading to Colorado Springs before I head towards Boise City in OK so could shoot that way too.
