I do find that Yiddish is more comprehensible to me.  My grandparents would speak it when they didn't want me to know what they were saying, so, naturally, I picked up a fair amount. Mostly obscenities, though.

Bitte konnst du mir sagen dieses schlechtes sachen auf Yidish. Das ist die Beste zeil von Yidish. Ich kenne nur einfache worten. Schreib eine "obscenity" und ich werde probiers zu verstehen.
